Happy Friday!! What books have you read this week? What are you currently reading? Like/Dislike any of them?
QOTW: Here in the States it's a long weekend for most people thanks to Labor Day - have any fun plans? If not, what's something you like to do when you get a long weekend?

I finished The City Of Mirrors last night. I'm not sure I really liked how this book and series ended. I will be starting Carval today.
QOTW: I didn't make plans for this weekend because my husband was scheduled to work but his disability got extended for 2 weeks after his surgery follow up appointment. I think we might just deep clean the house this weekend. The kids start school on Tuesday.
I am still reading Ahab's Wife. I was out of town Sat - Wed, so I got very little time to read. It is fine, we'll see what my opinion is at the end. I am disappointed that my Caravel hold is still not available for the book club discussion, but someday I'll get to read it!
QOTW: We have friends coming over for dinner and a fire on Saturday and then I hope to "hibernate" the rest of the weekend!

I tried "Furiously Happy" this week, but just can't get into it. It's really funny, but I think I want a story not essays. I'm thinking of starting "The Night Circus" or "All the Light We Cannot See" because I live under a rock and haven't already read it
QOTW: Dh is working Saturday so I'm looking forward to reading/sleeping in/DVR just whatever I want to do. We had a BBQ with his family Sunday but it was moved due to rain. Hoping for a rainy day date day. Hope everyone has a great long weekend!
I'm reading The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemison, which is really good, so much so that I'm willing to put off starting the new Louise Penny so I can finish this first. I'm pretty obsessed with Inspector Gamache, so that's saying a lot. Also finally finished Behind You by Jacqueline Woodson, my least favorite of the four of hers I read this month. The alternating characters made it hard for me to really get into the story.
QOTW: We might go to the zoo, but otherwise we are planning a whole lot of nothing. It's been a long few weeks and we could all use a break.
I finished The Reef by Nora Roberts this week. I'm almost finished with my re-read of HP and the Order of the Phoenix. I'm about to start Misery by Stephen King I think.
QOTW: I'm in Gatlinburg TN with my boyfriend and his friends in a cabin for the weekend.
I finished Travels with Charley by Steinbeck. I really enjoyed the book. I also found his take on race in America really interesting, especially after reading The Hate You Give. I started A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle. I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as I thought I would.
Qotw: DH has a four day weekend. We planned on going to an amusement park today, but they are talking 108 at the amusement park and 88 here at home. We decided to enjoy the pool and have a playdate at home instead. It's crazy how temps change so quickly within a few miles around here.
Reading Skeletons at the Feast but haven't really gotten into it. We finished the illustrated Chamber of Secrets as a family this week after a bit of a lull in regularly reading it.
On long weekends I seem to want to tackle home projects, we might do a small one this weekend. We're also hosting a BBQ on Sunday.

I'm about halfway through a reread of A Wrinkle In Time. I loved it as a kid, and I'm enjoying the reread now. I'm glad it has stood the test of time for me.
Tomorrow I have rehearsal all afternoon, and on Sunday I'm going to some friends' house for their annual Labor Day weekend Hog Roast. The museum doesn't close for Labor Day but I'm planning to take the day off. I need a day.

Still reading She, Lover of Death, though it's getting better.
QOTW: It's Father's Day weekend here in Australia and we had scheduled to have my in-laws over for dinner, but I pulled a muscle in my back cleaning house for their visit so it may be canceled.
I read All the Light We Cannot See, The Hate U Give, The Underground Railroad, and Caraval. I liked all of them for the most part. I had some issues with caraval as discussed but it wasn't a bad read overall.
This week I finished up Caraval and am now reading the Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin and The Search by Nora Roberts. The search is okay. Just typical NR.
I'm reading HP5--after this week I just need a dependable comfort novel!
QOTW: We are going to visit DH's stepdad in the hospital today and then I'm spending the rest of the weekend helping a friend move out of her flooded house. Also two of my friends and I are getting our kids together so we can make lunches and deliver them to hard hit neighborhoods. For something fun we may hit the pool one last time.
Read last week: Origins by Ilona Andrews - PNR; 4 stars; I love this author, I would read her grocery list LOL. This is a novella, so the character relationships maybe aren't as fully developed as I would have liked, but the plot and the world building and the action - all great! Caraval by Stephanie Garber - YA/fantasy; 3.5 stars; see the book club discussion! Frozen Tides (#4 in series) by Morgan Rhodes - YA/fantasy; 4 stars; snshne322 I am happy to report that I am really back into this series! This book was great!! You can still keep Jonas out of it though LOL
Currently reading: All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai - sci-fi; reminds me a bit of the book 'Dark Matter' (which I loved) and so far I am really liking this. Truth or Beard by Penny Reid - romance; eh, I am hoping this improves, so far it's kind of bland.
QOTW: It's yucky weather but we're hoping it clears up eventually so we can go to Epcot's Food and Wine Festival so we can eat and drink around the world
I'm almost done with my Game of Thrones (book 1) re-read and am between library audiobooks so casually listening to The Hobbit, which is one of the few audiobooks I've actually purchased.
QOTW: mostly housework. We have some projects (landscaping, painting, etc.) that we want to get done before winter. I also hope to finish GOT, finish Climate of Hope (which I had put down for my GOT re-read), and start The Hate U Give since I just got it from the library.

Happy Labor Day weekend fellow US'ers
This week I read:
The Second Mrs. Hockaday (4/5 stars) - This def. held my interest and was a great read I believe it was inspired by a true story? Great read with all the stuff going on in todays world
The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter (4.5/5 stars) I loved this book so much! It was so suspenseful and had me hooked from the first chapter, could not put it down. Breezed through it! Def. has some sense and triggers llike abuse, murder, rape, etc. I am going to check out some more by Slaughter, I love her writing. Keeps me interested!
Arrowood by Laura McHugh (4/5 stars) Another great read! Keep me interested the entire time. Great end of summer mystery/suspense
Currently listening to : The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo- I am enjoying it so far! I love Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Currently searching for a suspense/thriller to get lost in on this rainy day , we shall see! Barnes and noble and library trip ahead!
QOTD: I just got back from Vermont from a mini vaca , so I plan to rest and recoop today. Monday I have a long bike ride planned with a friend through all of the festivities going on in the city!
I started "Do Not Become Alarmed," but it's meh so it's sitting. Currently reading Human Remains by Elizabeth Haynes. It's a weird one. I think the book has finally turned toward the end.
QOTW- We're at our beach house for the weekend. Weather is rainy yesterday and today, but tomorrow looks promising.
I did manage to finish Nora Webster last week just in the nick of time for my book club last week, and I finally wrapped up Career of Evil yesterday. Nora Webster sucked, but I really liked Career of Evil even if I thought it was too long. I've since started reading Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History, which alternates between being fascinating and a little to dry and technical.
QOTW: We're just hanging out at home and being lazy this weekend. That's pretty typical for long weekends for us.
I completed Standard Deviation by Katherine Heiny this weekend. Loved this book. Centers around a main character, male in his sixties, living with his younger quirky wife and on the spectrum son in NYC in modern day. Witty, great character development, I related a lot to the every day drama of this slice of an aging marriage. And sarcastic, ironic and funny - I laughed out loud several times.
For my long weekend, I tried to do a big clean out and have a yard sale so that I could donate the proceeds. It rained, my muscles are sore from playing Tetris with boxes, and I made very little. Life lesson learned. Just donate the stuff.

Yay! I'm hoping there's more redeeming qualities in the next book. He's got to get his shit together.
I finished reading All the Rivers by Dorit Rabinyan. This was the second time I had started it (the first time I got side tracked and wasn't interested in it enough to continue.) I really enjoyed it and I think I liked it more knowing that it was based on her own experiences.
The story is about an Israeli woman and Palestinian man who meet while living in New York. He's an artist and she's a linguist. Their relationship is relatively short - five months, until both of them head back to their homes in Israel/occupied Palestine. As a Jew and a moderate-progressive on Zionism, I loved how the author described the nuance of politics on this issue while also really bringing you in to their story and feeling their own conflict and love. I knew the ending but it was still a jolt and I ugly cried. However, it's probably now one of my top 10 favorite books.
As an aside the book as been banned in Israel for high school required reading because the powers that be feared it would encourage intermarriage.
QOTW: We generally don't make plans for Labor Day.
