When I googled, it looks like someone actually tweeted back in 2012 asking if JA had a lisp. Has this been a thing for a while? Is it bad sound editing? So many questions.

Yeah, I just listened and H said she sounded as she usually does but I do think she sounded like she had kind of a lisp in that commercial. And this is a solid 20 years of Friends reruns experience talking! She sounded different to me.
I'm really surprised by the people saying she sounds the same. I honestly didn't think it was her, just someone who sounds a bit like her. The entire reason I googled it was to see if Smartwater was trying to make some sort of statement by featuring someone with a speech impediment on their commercial. I could hardly believe it when I read that it is, in fact, JA.

I've seen that commercial on tv and she sounded normal, but I admit she does sound different in that clip. Don't know why the tv vs. YouTube versions seem different to me.

I don't have cable but the commercial is playing on constant repeat on Hulu and she definitely sounds weird there, too.

Yep. I have Friends on in the background all the time. She sounds different. Not super off, but definitely a lisp or something.

Yep it sounds different, but I wonder if it is due to something on the recording end. It is not on every s and when i see her in her Aveeno and dry eye commercials, her voice sounds like it always has.
I agree she sounds different, but now it's going to have my paying more attention when I watch Friends. Maybe it's always been there and I didn't notice?
I'm gonna go with she's wearing something over her teeth (although WhyTF would you do that when you are recording a voice over?)...I sound like that when I have my nightguard in (for teeth grinding).
I agree. She sounds different. I just wrote it off as it being someone else until this thread. I have spent wayyyy too many nights falling asleep to Friends to not know her voice pattern.
It's off. But the pattern of her errors is more consistent with dental work, or maybe even kybella injections temporarily impacting her base of tongue muscles and proprioceptive input for overall coordination.
Her bilabials (sounds produced with lips as primary articulators) sound find to me so I really don't think this is caused by lip injections.
