Do we have anyone in Mexico near the earthquake? Hope you're ok, if so.
Florida ladies? Who's evacuating and who's prepping to weather the storm?
My grandmother is in St. Pete. Last I heard, she had no plans to evacuate, but I'm going to check again today.
ETA: I forgot to include the Caribbean! I don't think we have anyone who lives there, but if we do, how are you? Folks with friends and relatives there, have you heard from them?
From the Midwest but I work for a power line contractor. We have started mobilizing crews to Florida so they can be in position to start to restore power once Irma is done. Some are going to be in Florida Saturday so right after it hits they can start assessing the damage and then others will get down there right after. My crew arriving Saturday is staying in Birmingham Friday night because that's the closest hotel rooms they could get to Florida.

We are in Orlando so we are staying. Hotels are full of people from down south and the east coasts. I'm so afraid for those areas. We are prepared with the usual water/flashlights/etc. Schools are out today, we will start getting weather Saturday night and the worse of it will be Sunday/Monday, is what I've heard.
My yard has never been clearer and cleaner. H went HAM on it last night. The petty part of me is very annoyed that the mulching and landscaping redo I've sunk so much time and money in is going to be wrecked.
shakinros, I believe that coast is kind of mostly out of the line of fire? I hate trying to guess these things. Good luck to her.

Thanks, everyone. It will likely be a two by the time it drags its way to me. I have wine, I have Oreos, I have 5003 stickers for the kids. We will be fine. (I have actual basic supplies too).
If anyone has family down south or on the coast, know the whole state is pulling for them. Except that ass trying to sell cases of water for $30 on the BST Facebook group. The whole state hates him too.
my husband's grandparents live in west palm beach and are refusing to leave. They are in their 80s and his grandmother is in too much pain to travel and can't fly.
I wish we could convince them to at least try to go to Orlando or the panhandle to our other family, but they are being stubborn.
supertrooper1,They are prepared as they can be. They have family 30 minutes away who came to help, plus and few others. I just don't want them to be there.

Praying to you guys and for everyone who has family that is sheltering in place.
I saw the updated path of the hurricane and I'm just floored that it looks like it's just going to shoot right up the who's state...but who knows. Mother Nature is fickle. It'll weaken as it goes of course so hopefully...

shakinros, I was thinking of your grandma and looking at the storms westerly shift and I obviously don't know where in St Pete she lives but the Tampa Bay Times has PDFs for shelters for anyone in low areas or manufactured homes if she's on the beach side.
My grandparents and special needs uncle live on an island off of Clearwater and were forced off for mandatory evacuations today. They are turning all power off on the entire island to. My grandfather is angry they have to leave their home. They went to their inland condo they keep for storms. They refused to leave the state earlier.
Sorry to use this thread as a journal but my parents made it home to Atlanta. My grandma is still in her house. She's in Zone C, which is not mandatory evacuation yet; A & B are.
My grandma also takes care of my cousin's baby. My 80yo grandma with an infant. (My cousin is struggling with mental illness.) When she's in her right mind, my cousin is very... directive. So if she felt they needed to be at a shelter, all three of them would be at a shelter. I hope she's there. And functional.
I'm kind of freaking out about it and it is still so many days before I will know how they weathered this.
shakinros, so scary! Thoughts and prayers for them!
I have a friend in Tampa. I offered my house to them but they weren't in the path until it shifted west and now they are directly in the path but too late to get out with all the evacuee traffic. I keep had trouble sleeping.

shakinros, I'm so sorry. I hope your family is safe.
My inlaws live in zone 2 in Tampa -- a few blocks from mandatory evacuation. They finally agreed to move inland this morning and the rest of the family has gotten away from the coast. They'll still get crazy winds but they should be safe from storm surge.
My mom finally got a hold of my great aunt who lives in St. Petersburg. She packed up and borded up her house and was travelling inward to stay with friends. 1st time she has had to evacuate and she has lived in Florida all my life. I hope it fizzle fast.

Friends and my inlaws neighbors says things not as bad as expected in Tampa/St Pete, shakinros. I hope you've heard from your grandma. Poor Naples was hammered.
We got it easy. Some downed trees and lost shingles and a few minor things. There are 11 people in my house and a curfew until 6.

Not so bad librarychica. My grandma went to bed when her power went out at 9 and slept through the whole thing. Hearing loss pays off sometimes! I'm waiting on word re: flooding/storm surge but miraculously no damage from the wind.
Hope everyone in your house was able to get some breathing room!
