We're going to E's meet the teacher at preschool today, then he starts M/W from 9-12.
Runners, have any of your 5 year olds expressed interest in a 5k? My sister wants me o do one with her, and B overheard and is begging to do it too. We're not fast by any means, and my sister said she was willing to alternate walking and running with him. Good or bad idea?

ktstorm I'm no expert at 5k. I've done a lot, but not many recently. I signed Dh and myself up for one in Oct and I signed up ds 5 and ds 3 too (because it was free and they get a shirt). I expect ds3 to ride in stroller the whole time, but I plan to run/walk with ds 5. He can do about 2 miles without a problem, so the last mile might be a little hard, but I think it will be a fun experience. I figure if it is a bad experience, either we quit or don't try again for a year. I've seen kids doing 5ks before, so we are going to give it a shot. Also doesn't hurt that this race was free for kids, I wouldn't shell out a ton of money for this experiment
I had planned to take Daniel out for ice cream after school today. On Tuesday his teacher emailed saying they were having a small party and asked for volunteers to bring some snacks. I offered and she asked me for a bag of chocolate chips, a bag of marshmallows and a bag of pretzels. Not exactly healthy but a treat so whatever. We had open house at the school last night and it seems two other parents also volunteered and there were two boxes of sugary cereal and 24 full sized cupcakes on the counter in addition to the stuff I brought. They have snack time at 2, school ends at 2:30, thanks for jacking my kid up on sugar and sending them home. We will not be going out for ice cream.
ktstorm Matilda has been asking me recently to go running with me. I've been thinking about it, I feel like she's too young for formal running but I suppose letting her run 1 mile with me or something might be ok.
I highly doubt she'd be able to run 5k but alternating walking and running might be ok... I feel like it's likely Matilda would melt down though and it would be tough. Maybe you could try doing a 1 mile with him? Or have you already run short distances with him?
Matilda has been begging me to sign her up for school lunch and I finally figured it out and did it last night. Now I just feel worried there will be some issue and they won't feed her! I emailed her teacher and said I put money in the account and haven't sent her a lunch ...
I also just noticed last night her folder in her bag was full of stuff for me! like notes about practicing reading etc. I haven't practiced reading with her! I was supposed to have her read this sheet each night? and I have not. Maybe tonight.
Already finding the transition to K a bit stressful especially since H is out of town. Two different drop offs and pick ups and commuting an hour each way is not a great combo. Luckily my neighbor dropped her off a couple days for me.
H is in childcare for the first time! I don't know why I waited this long to join the gym but I'm exercising and it's been 30 minutes and no call so I assume he's good to go. Up to 2 hours by myself!

My sister told me there was a free fun run for kids, but no tshirt, and I expect B will want to go on the 5k either way and expect a tshirt, lol. It's $15 to pre-register and for a good cause so I don't mind.
My boys love running. We also walk or scooter miles (at least 2, up to 5, I'd say?) on any given day. They would much rather walk than take the car and since we live in a very walkable city, we tend to do that.
I run a lot and I still occasionally push them in a stroller. They have started to want to run with me. We have done a few shorter 1-2 mile runs that are a combo of run/walking. They did do a mini Boston marathon at school last year and they ran a mile with one water break. Jack loves it and is actually really fast!
I would sign him up ktstorm and just expect to walk in addition to run.
I can't wait until they are a bit older and can join my early morning runs since they are up at the crack of dawn anyway
laurack he hasn't done any runs, but his favorite thing to do is run races with neighbors- laps around the house. He did hike a few mountains with us this summer that were 3-5 miles round trip and did fine.
Holy crap, my sister was driving home in storm last night and her car got hit by a falling tree! The entire back part of her car was decimated, but somehow she's perfectly fine.

H takes the boys on hikes a lot. The one they did last weekend was about 3 miles and they were fine. If B is fine with 3-5 mile hikes, I think he will be fine in a 5k.
We have a Girl Scouts ice cream social tonight and then my H is taking G and C camping tomorrow. Hopefully they have fun.
I'm still trying to get A signed up for Girl Scouts, I was supposed to hear back this month and still haven't! Do you know when you guys start normal meetings?
Well H cried when I picked him up, so I call it a success. They had tons of trucks and balls so he was in heaven.
I also did a 5k, I mean I didn't run the whole thing but it was good for the first time I've exercised in awhile. I started allergy medicine and I feel like it really helped with my breathing while running.
