This weekend the neighbour was doing a run to the dump to get rid of some stuff. He asked DH to help him carry this table thing off the deck, when DH got there he realized that it was a train table/track. He asked what was wrong with it and the guy said nothing he just didn't want it. DH asked if we could have it and he said sure. The neighbour then asked if we wanted to look at the other stuff he was taking to the dump. He said sure, we got some much good stuff from him. -train table/track (in pic track is in table drawers) -kids camp chairs -water table (stored outside so needs to be cleaned but that's it) -a stack of books that's like 4ft tall -a while bunch of learning flash cards and things to teach a kid to learn.
Wow!! Why would he throw all that away?! In this case I'm glad he did since you got it, but that's crazy!
My money wins are...minimal. I have been spending like a crazy person. New bed, new fall wardrobe for Jack, tickets to go see Dan Rather for me...and I think I'm buying Disney on Ice tickets today.
I feel that money is going up in smoke over here. We have a toilet that's leaking on the floor, two other toilets that are running constantly, the dryer broke on Sunday and my laptop fried on Sunday.

awick14 I love when people just give things away like that! We've gotten a lot of free stuff for E that way, from my mom's coworker. A lot of the clothes have been through multiple kids but they're still in good condition and I don't care if he ruins them!
Our bank account has had a fairly consistent higher than usual balance the last few months. I credit my overtime, H's extra commission, and being a little better about bringing lunch. Our savings is pretty good right now too. Not amazing by any means, but we haven't had to dip into it lately. It'll go down of course when we get hospital bills later this year/early next year but I'll have a bonus in Feb to help replenish that!
We opened an extra checking account for H and I think it's helping him keep his spending in check. He uses it for gas station drinks, movies, games, etc. Basically anything that's not a necessity but he really wants. I haven't had a consistent schedule of depositing money in there but I try to remember to do it each time his job 2 paycheck comes in.
Speaking of job 2, he's planning on staying until maybe late Oct. We've been throwing most of the extra money towards the car and it's been helping. I'm hoping to get that paid off before #2 is in DC!
That's awesome, awick14! Free stuff is so fun, even if it does need cleaning.
Our only win was saving our vacuum with duct tape so we can hold off longer on buying a new one. It took a tumble down the stairs... Lol. Hopefully we can keep it together till Thanksgiving sales.
I was able to pick up some clothes for R from Kohl's for a good price, this is the first time since he was born that I really NEED to buy him clothes. He's always been given so much that I've only had to pick up a basic here and there or just buy things because I want to.
The last few weeks have all of a sudden been pretty spendy for us, but mainly things we need.
amaranth - It's terrible, but I'm already making lists of things I want to buy during Thanksgiving sales. I'm trying to convince myself I don't need anything until then, because we've been spending way too much money lately.

I scored a nice ($200-300) smoker for $10 from one of the ladies in my quilting group. Her husband is in assisted living, and she'll never use it. She said she'd just give it to me, but she has to show that she "sold" it, although it doesn't have to be for much. It was barely used, and her daughter cleaned it up a few weeks ago, so it looks nice and shiny. Of course, there is so much smoke in the air from fires right now that I can't use it yet, but I'm looking forward to making jerky for Christmas presents this year (my family is easy and we mostly do homemade gifts, especially consumables).
My son has been putting things in a box to donate, and filled one with his old Goosebumps books (over 50). I figured I'd put them on a local classified site to see if they sell before the weekend, and if not, I'd donate them. I believe in not charging a ton, so I put the whole box up for $15 and will be dropping them off with a lady tomorrow. I'll give the money to DS.
No real wins here. I did work some overtime and holiday pay last week so I'm hoping next week I can finally have enough to buy the camera I want. I can't wait to finally take clear pictures.
