Finally coming up for air from Irma and wanted to give you all an update, as promised. So in the end, we made the (ill advised) decision not to evacuate and ride it out when the storm took its westward turn over the weekend. Long story short, we will definitely leave next time. We kept rationalizing that even though we were so close to the river and in an Evac zone, our house was not (somehow?) in a flood zone. Neighbors kept telling us the neighborhood had never flooded- yada yada yada. Plus the storm turned. However, we were under tornado warnings all night and could hear trees falling everywhere around us. Plus the river rose pretty significantly just from what was left of the storm when it got to North FL. Some parts saw record breaking flooding and river rising, and that easily could have hit the part of the river 200 yards from us. Thankfully, we came away with minimal damage to the house and never lost power. Appreciate all the prayers and check-ins along the way.
Pics from the road behind our house. The orange house shows how high the river was into their yard. Our backyard backs up to the road we were taking the pic from.
So glad you all made it out with minimal damage. We live where tornadoes happen regularly during tornado season and that's scary as is, but I can't imagine it on top of the hurricane winds/rain and the flooding.

grover - Yeah, on top of everything else, on Sunday night we got word from our utility provider that people were going around in our area pretending to be utility workers. They would get people to open the door saying they needed to check on the utilities and then rob their homes. They knew that authorities weren't going out in the storm, especially in the evac areas. So every flash of light I saw overnight, I thought our home was getting broken into.

Omg, that is awful! I hate when people take further action of the vulnerable. As if the storm wasn't bad enough.
