I am ordering a sports spirit sign for DD. It has her sport and name listed. I can customize the name. Thoughts on putting her first name or last name? Trends in your area? Here it seems to be a mix. Safety considerations? She's 13 in 8th grade and has no social media. Unless you count Pinterest.
I kind of feel like it's putting a sign in our yard that a young teen girl lives here. But I feel the same about the elementary sign, and the soccer goal, playset, basketball hoop are probably equally big clues.

Something I always keep in mind is that, at least here, unless you have your name hidden with the appraisal district, anyone can go online, look up your address and see who owns the house...and also how much your house is worth and how many square feet it is. They only show your first and last name - not your kid's.
mustardseed2007 - DH was opposed to her last name as it isn't the same as his - by your logic that meant good things to me, but I lost the battle...Her first name is also a last name, and her last name is also a first name, so maybe that helps?
2chatter, everyone that lives around us knows we have kids, so there is no hiding that. And it would only be a factor of someone not living around us.
I am with you on the privacy issues, but I do see the signs here. I guess they just advertise the name and school, which most people would know what the public school is in the area, so I guess just the name. Most people around here do first name only.
Yep, like these! Last night we were at a game and they had the signs for sale. I wondered why we didn't have these and poof this morning I received the order form.
Key difference - the other school's signs were $10 and ours are $45. Crazy price hike, I assume because our school's parents will pay it.

Yard signs are very big in my area. This year the HS notified kids who earned a "5" on an AP exam by putting a sign in their yard. NMS (the AP one) because it feels kind of braggy to me and is a very public way to learn you did not earn a 5.
For the sports ones people generally put just first names. Sometimes jersey numbers.

This feels gross. Supporting a kid who is playing on a team seems reasonable. Showing off your AP test scores just doesn't sit well with me.
