I ordered the Dyson Animal 2 (ball) last week. I received the Dyson C8 stick. I think that may work better for us (we have two cats and dog and I should pick up the pet hair daily or so). We have hardwood floors with rugs in half our rooms.
So you don't have any actual carpet? I would probably want the stick in that case.
Disclaimer: I don't have a Ball or Stick (lol, why am I even in here?) but I do have a pre-Ball Dyson. I have to turn the beater off when I use it on our rugs, and I hate using it on the hardwoods because it is so heavy. I really want a Stick for the hardwoods and rug areas because I think it will solve my problems.

Honestly, I hate the new Animal with the ball. The canister is narrower and hair doesn't fall out easily like it did with Animal #1 (I still have my Animal #1 and went back to it even though it's not 100% functional, because I dislike the new one so much). We deal with a LOT of hair (two dogs) and it gets stuck, especially around the hinge -- I have to pull it out with my fingers and it's messy and gross.
We recently moved into a house that is mostly wood and tile flooring, and the stick vacuum we got is fantastic. (It's a Shark, though.) I still use the old Animal on our rugs and carpeted areas, but for day-to-day stuff I *love* the stick.
