Is anyone else done reading this?
I was, as expected, underwhelmed with this book. Everything was so expected. I feel like she could have left it a novella.
Of course Chaol was going to be healed and fall in love with the healer. Of course one of the royals was going to be the Valg. I will admit that I was a bit surprised by the revelation that Maeve is actually a valg.

I agree that the story could have been covered in a novella. Maeve being a Valg was shocking to me, while the rest was entertaining enough but a little thin on story. I did appreciate that Chaol wasn't completely healed by the end because it would have ruined the character development to me for him to be back to 100%.
Not worth waiting an extra year to find out what's going to happen to Aelin, even if she (Maas) did need to drop in that info about Maeve and how to defeat the Valg.
I started two nights ago. I haven't even made it through the first chapter yet. Hoping I will get more into it. Looks like the next book comes out in May.

The author recently announced on Instagram that the final ToG book has been delayed to next fall. Her father has been ill so the writing/editing process is taking longer than planned. Instead, she's releasing a ACOTAR novella in May that leads up to the next set of books.

Just to clarify, her dad had a massive heart attack - the widowmaker, they call it - while playing golf with his friend. His friend performed CPR on him for a long time while talking to 911 on the phone and, ultimately, saved his life. Still, they weren't sure if her dad was going to pull through, and he didn't wake up for a long time. She got the phone call and was on a plane something like 30 minutes later, thinking her dad was going to die. Pretty traumatic, more than merely being "ill". She wrote about it in her newsletter this summer.

Thank you for the clarification. I knew he had a heart attack, but didn't realize it was that serious.
Huh. Clearly I have not kept up. That is scary about her dad and I am glad it sounds like he is going to make it. Family comes first, always, so I totally don't blame her for pushing back the date on her book!
I am still only about 5% into the book. After three days. I have been super tired at night but I think my bigger problem is that since I feel like we are living in a dystopian novel right now I am having a hard time reading one.
I finished this last night. It only took me 4 weeks, lol.
I actually liked it. I went into it with pretty low expectations because I did not like the last TOG book at all but I was pleasantly surprised. It was about 100 pages too long but overall it kept my attention the whole time. I was glad there was some redemption for Chaol...I liked him in the first few books. I'm ready to see what happens next!!
