Ds2 (15 months) got his MMR vaccination 8 days ago. He woke up today with a mild fever (99.1) and is a little clingy. Ds1 got a high fever and full body rash with the same vaccination 4.5 years ago on day 8 or 9 and we took him to urgent care and they said to just alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen and he was fine after doing that for a day. So, this fever is 100% expected and he isn't sick or contagious. I gave Ds2 medicine and sent him to daycare this morning but now feel really guilty. Would you have sent him?
Of course if they call and say he's having a hard day or is too sick or has a fever (100 is their limit) I'll pick him up immediately!
I think some working parents with children in daycare that have had a million germs (and the parents can't get out of work) have done the medicine and pray method.
Most of the time I have never gotten a phone call, and the kids' day was great. Rarely it goes the other way. Usually when I get a phone call to pick up its totally out of the blue.
Mine are older and have better immune systems, so I don't find myself in this predicament as often anymore. Back in the days of 10 day viruses that me and the kids used to get added to regular viruses 3-4 days lets say, plus it going through the entire family, maternity leave and millions of doctor appointments we ended up having no choice but to occasionally send kids in sick. I believe our daycare fever cut off is either 99.5 or 100, so we were either under that or no fever but sick/ sick-ish.
Don't feel guilty! I think you are perfectly fine in sending him. You know what is causing the fever and it's not an illness or contagious and you medicated it to make him happier and hopefully less clingy so he has a good day. Even as the parent of a medically fragile child I don't blink at your reasoning and story. Now the times we get the phone call because another child has been throwing up all day or is very ill, and then I see that kid again the next day at drop off clearly sick and medicated (or even seeing the parents medicate in the parking lot) those are the parents I bat an eye at and blame when we end up in patient for days because of their kid. I think you are fine!!!
I wouldn't feel guilty at all. 99.1 is not a fever. He's honestly probably better off at daycare because there will be lots of distractions, etc to keep him from realizing he doesn't feel 100%. If you'd kept him home, he'd probably be super clingy and whiny just because he's with you (or is that just my kid?).

I would definitely have sent my kid. DS has been teething like crazy and running low grade fevers. Off to daycare. If he's absolutely miserable I'd go get him but he acts better there than he does at home.
DS always runs little warm (usually in the low to mid 90's). And when he gets a fever, it's usually in the 103-105+ range. I have dosed him and sent him when he's in the 100-101 range as long as he's acting like himself and doesn't have any other symptoms. (I justify this to myself with the fact that our doctor won't even acknowledge anything under 101.4 as a fever).
So I'm that mom at daycare that you probably hate. Otherwise I would have literally spent weeks at home for a kid who was otherwise well. (On the flip side... DD rarely got fevers. I often kept her home when she was <100 because she wasn't acting normal.)
We send them unless they have a fever over 100.4. I would've sent him too. We've given DC a heads up that they just had vaccinations or have an ear infection so may have a low grade fever. They've never called for us to pick up in these cases.

He's much clingier at home and entertained at school. I'm not a germaphobe and fully expect him to get all the germs at school. He's normally so happy and low key so I know he's not feeling great but the meds should help and we aren't putting anyone else at risk.
Yesterday was fine! We will see how today goes. He woke up at 102 but hadn't had medicine since 8pm and STTN. So we gave him some immediately and it's already come down to 100.8 (below the school limit). He's acting totally normal and is right on track with his brothers same reaction 4 years ago. I sent him to school again but will get him if they call. He has so much more fun there and will be bored and whining at home so I hope he makes it!
For the record, I also would have sent. My kids run hot, which means that they might not be really sick, but they have a fever by the school's standards.
