Hi , board is slow so thought I would post a question. My husband is going away for a night, so to make it fair I get one night out. I honestly really just want to go to a hotel by myself somewhere. It would be cool if it was a fun area to explore some shops, maybe have a massage or go on a hike, walk around. Something within 2 hrs or so of central MA. Any good ideas? It would be November or December.
Hmm, Newport, Portsmouth, Newburyport/Plum Island? I find Brattleboro, VT very charming, but there really aren't any nice hotels there. Somewhere in the Berkshires maybe? I'm not super familiar with that area. That sounds fun!

scm1011 has some great ideas. For the Berkshires, Stockbridge or Lenox might be nice. The only hotel I know out there is the Red Lion Inn, which is right in downtown Stockbridge. If you stay there, the main street gets all Rockwell-ed up for the holidays. There are some shops along main street in Stockbridge, museums (Norman Rockwell, Edith Wharton's home and a couple of others I'm blanking on), some outlets, and I'm sure some hiking trails.
What about booking a hotel in downtown Boston? You can be as active as you want (or not!), and everything is basically right outside the door. We stayed at the Liberty the night after our wedding, and it was amazing. I took a ridiculously long bubble bath, we got take out from a place up the street, and we just vegged. The next morning, we wandered over somewhere to get some brunch and coffee, took a walk around Beacon Hill, and headed back home.

Thank you, I like Portsmouth and have never stayed overnight there. I like the Berkshires too. I have been to Kripalu which is awesome, but I was super scheduled and stayed in a dorm to save money. I just want my own room and tv and alcohol, lol.
5kcandlesinthewind!! Good to see you around!! I hope you and Ben are well
I have never spent any time in the Berkshires, but by your description now I want to take a Christmas time trip to Stockbridge! It sounds adorable.
Have a great trip, lizlemon19. I think wherever you decide, as long as there is a comfy bed, some good food, alcohol, and zero responsibilities, it will be bliss

Thanks all for the suggestions. Decided to go to Portsmouth, and going with 2 of my HS friends. Staying downtown. Any recommendations for things to do?
