This week I read Visions of Sugar Plums and I wasn't a fan. None of it really made sense. I'm currently reading Midnight Jewel (The Glittering Court #2). It's only mildly interesting. It is the same time frame as the first book only from a different characters perspective. So there is a lot of repetition of events from the first book.
I'm still reading Tower of Dawn. I actually do like it so far but I have been SO tired at night that I haven't made much process. I'm reading for about 15 minutes before dozing and finding the kindle on my face.
QOTW: Favorite park--Disney World of course! Either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. Favorite ride? I'm not sure..probably Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

I've recently started Seven Stones to Stand or Fall. I've read at least one or two of the stories in there from other compendiums, but I don't think I'm going to be able to finish it when the eloan expires.
Cedar Point is the one park to rule them all when it comes to roller coasters, but Universal has my vote for all of the rest of the ambiance.
Read last week: Coming in from the Cold by Sarina Bowen - romance; 3 stars; freebie that I got an email about from BookHub and decided to pick up on a whim. I actually just kind of wish this book was longer and didn't stop where it did Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas - historical romance; 4 stars; I haven't read the other books in this series of hers, but it reminds me a lot of my love for her Wallflowers series, so I will definitely be reading more of it The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo - fiction/romance; 4 stars; I shouldn't have liked this book as much as I did Satan's Sword (#2 in series) by Debra Dunbar - PNR; 3.5 stars; the main character is so inherently bad (she is a demon) in some ways that this book is very unique and enjoyable, but it's written kind of simplistically and some parts aren't believable character-wise What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton - non-fiction; 5 stars; I can't give a super short review of this, so I'll make a separate post, but here's my review on GR
Currently reading: The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne - historical fiction; this is a physical book and so I will probably take forever to finish reading this as I usually read ebooks on my phone or audiobooks. Sad, I know. Elven Blood (#3 in series) by Debra Dunbar - PNR; I am only reading this now because it was a bundle with the second book from the library, but I probably would DNF it at this point if I wasn't so far into the story already Archangel's Viper (#10 in series) by Nalini Singh - PNR; this was just released this week. So far it's pretty good.
QOTW: I absolutely love Epcot - it has some thrill rides (fast track), it has enjoyable sit back and relax rides (Living with the Land), it has animals (Nemo aquarium), it has culture (all the different countries in the World Showcase), and it has lots of delicious food especially during the Food and Wine Festival. It's not the most exciting theme park but it's by far my favorite. My favorite ride would be some kind of tie between the Manta rollercoaster at Sea World, the Gringott's ride at Universal, and Soarin at Epcot.
Ugh! I just realized I completely spaced out on posting about the book club read this month - again! I'll post the discussion for it this coming Wednesday instead. Sorry!!!

LOVE Cedar Point! We recently took my son to the little six flags here in Denver and he was into the coasters. Even can't wait to blow his mind at Cedar Point.
I'm still working on The Mists of Avalon and What Happened. I need to finish them soon because DH just bought me the new Stephen King and it's almost October!

I finished Small Great Things this week and enjoyed it! I also finished a biography on Polk that had a lot of information over war with Mexico over Texas that I found myself glossing over.
The Chemist just came in and it's a book club pick...I'd never heard of it and I liked twilight back in the day!
QOTW--I've only been to universal (kid free) recently, and really liked Rocking Rollercoaster! I'm ready to take my kids to Disney though!! We're big fans!

I'm nearing the end of The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend (I'm enjoying it) and I picked up an Iris Johansen (No Easy Target) at the library over lunch. I haven't read anything of hers since she was writing for the old Loveswept romance line, so I'll be interested to see if I like it.
QOTW: I'm afraid of heights, so I never do the rides that leave the ground. But I used to love the rides where you'd go around and around, up/down on a track or spinning in your seats. Just don't take me off the ground! lol

I'm reading Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. The book is not bad, but nothing about it is making want to dive in an read it. I've been dragging it out. I'm also doing a relisten of Voyager. Starting season 3 makes me realize how much I've forgotten.
QOTW: I think I'm broken because I don't really enjoy amusement parks. I've been to Six Flags and Cedar Point and they were fine as a kid I guess, but I have no interest as an adult. We have a local one called Canobie Lake and pretty much every company's summer outing is there (both DH and mine) so Wes gets to go twice a year and I'm just thankful I don't have to fork out the money because I would rather be almost anywhere else.

Oops! I was way too busy at work this week to notice it was the last Wed. of the month, but I definitely want to talk about The Hate U Give so I'll try to remember next Wednesday, too.
I'm still reading What Happened (slowly, bus ride book) by Hillary Clinton. Definitely still interesting but also hard to read from an emotional perspective.
I also finished Captive Queen by Alison Weir. I definitely hadn't known as much about Eleanor of Aquitane so it was interesting to learn her history, but I think the story was hard to tell in a single book because it spanned so many years. It made it feel more like a history book in some ways than a novel.
Because it's been a while since I've read a comfort book, I picked up The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It's a re-read but it's been a long time so I've forgotten a lot.
I'm also still listening to Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I've heard so many amazing things about it that I want to finish, but to be honest it's still not captivating me. I thought Hillenbrand spent way too long telling stories about the military campaigns, for example.

OK, this is funny that we're reading the exact same two books right now. I guess What Happened is logical, but you must have mentioned The Mists of Avalon last Friday and it made it into my subconscious and that's why I grabbed it off the bookshelf a couple days ago without any conscious memory of your post.

Honestly they're not my thing, either. I mean, I enjoyed rides here and there as a kid, but as an adult I can't really be bothered. I'd much rather be reading a book or riding my bike or skiing or any number of other fun things.

I just finished The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemison, which was so good and I can't wait until my library hold comes in on the third in the trilogy. Now reading The Essence of Malice by Ashley Weaver, 4th in a mystery series. They're usually light and enjoyable.
Qotw: I love those swings that lift up and go around -- it's not a super spinny ride, sort of a gentle spin. I used to love the roller coasters with really high hills, but I'm not sure I could handle it any more.
LOVE Cedar Point! We recently took my son to the little six flags here in Denver and he was into the coasters. Even can't wait to blow his mind at Cedar Point.

Lol! I wish I would have read it when I was younger; I would have been so into and read it multiple times. I do really like it, but 800+ page books are such a commitment that I doubt I'll get to it again.
I’m reading The Gilded Hour by Sarah Donati. It’s a heavy book that has more pages and dense text than it appears. It’s going to be a big one to get through. I like the characters and 1883 New York setting so far.
QOTW I loved the Matterhorn at Disney when I was a kid. I also like the log rides. My boys are still exploring their favorites at amusement parks and they love the super crazy spinners. We don’t go on many of the same rides!

My friends are baffled by my lack of interest. It's always hot and miserable and I really, really don't enjoy adrenaline rushes. NO THANK YOU, SIR.
I finished Waking Lions this morning, and I'm glad it's over (although I do still have to go discuss it at book club tomorrow). It picked up the last 10% of the book, but I would not recommend. I haven't started anything new yet. I think I have the Hate U Give on my Kindle, so maybe I can squeeze that in before Wednesday.
QOTW: I don't go to amusement parks, and I only go to fairs for the food.
I'm far too prone to motion sickness for rides to be any fun, although when I was younger I did used to enjoy carousels and one or two roller coasters before I was done with rides. But I could never do anything like teacups that spin you around, and anything that just straight up lifts you up and drops you is a big fat no.
Qotw:I don't like many amusement park rides. I get motion sickness easily. My favorite park would have to be Epcot. My favorite ride though would be the Radiator Springs Racer ride at California Adventure.

This week, I couldn't sleep one night so I read The Bride Wore Starlight between 12:30a and 4:00a. And I've been working on Heavenly Pleasures, a mystery by Kerry Greenwood. I've been enjoying it, but I'm 7 chapters in and the mystery hasn't been specifically introduced yet so I'm getting a bit impatient.
QOTW: My favorites has always been Ferris Wheels and Carousels. In fact, I just found out there is a double decker carousel in San Francisco near Pier 39 and am trying to figure out a way to make a visit/ride there work during my SF layover flying between Melbourne & Fort Lauderdale.
I'm reading Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. The book is not bad, but nothing about it is making want to dive in an read it. I've been dragging it out. I'm also doing a relisten of Voyager. Starting season 3 makes me realize how much I've forgotten.

I don't really like amusement parks either. And when I read everyone else was answering about Disney or other theme park rides, I felt very silly saying I like Ferris wheels and carousels. But it's the truth, a ride on the Flying Horses in New Orleans City Park is better than anything in Disney to me. (I went to Disney World on Merv Griffin's dime back when the College Jeopardy Test was still conducted in person, but that was before Disney got as big as it is now.)

Personally, I don't get this, but every time we go to Cedar Point we invite friends or siblings - "we'll get a sitter and do ALL the coasters!" - and they're like, "hard pass." Whatever. Less people in line - lol.
I finished Lost in Lumby last night. It fit perfectly with the series and was a nice, easy read that I enjoyed. Perfect for a busy week where I was away at training.
I plan to start The Winter Sea today. I think I saw it recommended here and my hold became available last week.
QOTW: I am also not really an amusement park person. I used to love spinny rides, but as I have gotten older I have issues with motion sickness. I have never been a fan of rollercoasters - absolutely no interest in going upside down! I send my DH to Cedar Point every year with friends as he wants to ride rollercoasters all day and we would not have fun together.
LOVE Cedar Point! We recently took my son to the little six flags here in Denver and he was into the coasters. Even can't wait to blow his mind at Cedar Point.

OMG, chica! On page 744 on kindle, the word "dotard" appears! Hahaha!!
