What has everyone been working on? I took a break from quilting for a week of night shifts, and decided to make some other little projects instead. Then, after I swore off taking on anything new projects until the end of the year (I have some I want to finish before Christmas), a lady on a quilting board asked if I would be willing to make some pillowcases for some kids who lost their new housing due to hurricane Harvey (as a "welcome back home" gift after the reconstruction is complete). Well, how can I say no to that?!
NICU donation quilt (I had to force myself to buy pink, since I don't like it, but I hope a little one out there will love it!) I have four other tops done, but this is the first completed quilt. A small "I spy" quilt.
One of the four quilts I made for the Senior Center (I'm the youngest of a great group of women, who are mostly retired). We're making 50+ large lap quilts to give to the Meals on Wheels recipients.
A paper pieced stocking block I designed. I made six of them, five of which I mailed off in a winter/Christmas block swap.
I took advantage of the free Craftsy day on Labor Day, and watched a video on how to make small pouches and bags.
Also from the Craftsy class. (An old coworker/friend asked if I would be willing to make some items for a Christmas bazaar. While I have no desire to try to make things to sell, I told her I would. I'll be making simple/quick projects to make it worth my time--pouches, grocery bags with fabric that doesn't fray so I don't have to hem it, pot holders, stockings, etc. I do a lot of my own things and donation items while I'm at work, but I can't do that for anything to sell, so have to save that for my own time. I only have to pay for the table if I make enough to cover it though, and I had the day off anyway, so that's good.)
These are the pillowcases I made for the kids. I chose to do all boys, and requested to do some older boys since I know teen/pre-teen boys can be difficult to pick stuff for. I made an extra one for my son, thinking he'd want the camo one, but he chose the shoe one instead. The rest I sent off last week.
They were really easy! I did an insane amount of pressing them though. I washed them to make sure they wouldn't shrink weird and would be ready to use upon receipt, but I wanted them to look as fresh and crisp and brand new as possible.
Thanks. I have the best job... as long as I get my work done, I can make stuff on the "off shifts" (like nights, I love nights). As long as I don't try to profit from any of it (running a side business at work is strictly forbidden). It keeps me awake and and makes finding time much easier.
I have lost a bit of my knitting mojo but am hoping to get it back when my yarn for a sweater arrives this week
I hope the yarn brings back the mojo!
I had a lot of fun with the pillowcases. Each one had to be different and I got to use up some of my favorite fabrics (because I'm kind of a nerdy, 80's/90's teenage boy deep down, lol.)

I've been making in the hoop stuff. and then there was this elephant. It went better than I expected, but not sure I'll do another until one of my sisters has a kid.
I can tell my depression and anxiety has improved because I'm embroidering and sewing again. Oh, and I made these last week for my daughter's teacher. L came home and told me Miss B needed a bookmark because she just used an index card, lol.

I just snorted orange juice- THE CUTEST.
I know. I messaged the teacher and asked her favorite colors and couldn't help adding an lol. I still need to make her the "you fell asleep here" bookmark L thought was so hilarious as a kindy kid and still thinks is hilarious as a 2nd grader, but maybe for Christmas. She has four of the hearts now in her favorite glitter colors. And L's BFF wants the heart bookmark for a valentine. There's a 2 inch version I might stitch out en masse in felt, though I'm sure glitter vinyl was her hope.

I've been on a dishcloth kick to get my mojo back ... I made these three at a conference I went to two weeks ago:
Also, I just started (well, it's been a week) this shawlette as a test knit. It started as a pretty slow go, but it's only a 12-line pattern repeat and I *think* I've finally got it memorized so it should go faster now that I don't have to keep checking my sheet. (Sorry about the terrible photo, it's dark dark purple and it was tough to see any details so I blew it out.) I can't wait to see how it blocks out:
I made a big batch of the mini pumpkins for my kids' school- I figured they could sell them, give them to teachers, use them as slingshot ammunition- something. I think they're going to use them as a fund raiser- I might need to make more!
I'll try to take pictures of the rest of the kiln batch later this afternoon- busy busy!

Do you sell your items? Because I would buy a bunch of these.

I don't, I'm sorry- I've explained it a few times before (not expecting you to have read them, just so those who have don't have to read it again- LOL) that I really just don't want to feel like dealing with the hassles of selling stuff I make. Making is my joy, my happy place, and people (not YOU guys- just in general!) are sure to stomp all over that. It took a LOT out of me to even ask if the school wanted these- ha!
If I ever do reach a point where I'm ready, you all will be the first to know, though! And I do really appreciate the thought/mention, I take it as a huge compliment.
