I think it's becoming increasingly rare to find any type of washing machine that offers a warm rinse cycle.
It also seems that a lot of people get hung up on their machines not literally having a warm rinse or warm pre-wash, when really all that is meant by a pre-rinse or pre-wash is that the diapers should be agitated for a period of time in water without detergent or any other additives (unless water is extremely hard), and cold water is fine but many people find warm to be more effective. And after the water has been spun out they have been effectively pre-rinsed or pre-washed, in preparation for the main event. So, set your machine to whatever cycle does this.
At any rate, it sounds like you've figured out something that works for you, so congrats!
That's so funny. I marked my troublesome bb mf inserts with a black Sharpie dot on the tag last year too. Stripping them with hot washes made them better. ETA I have moderately hard water, and I use the original Tide powder. I may start adding Charlie's Booster once J starts solids but Tide is great for now.

freezorburn , I was doing the cold pre-wash before, but recently tried a warm pre-wash just to see if it would help with the stink issues. I'm annoyed that my machine doesn't let me control anything! My old machine was very submissive in comparison haha!
DGM , I love the idea of mf inserts, but they're just not working out for me. They've been such a hassle since the beginning. I had considered switching to bamboo and hemp, but I don't want to waste more money. If I could go back, I would buy all flats/prefolds and covers.
It's funny, I find folding flats to be more enjoyable than stuffing pockets.
beachbum22, and when you're bored with your stash, you can change how you fold the flats and put them on and banish the boredom without spending a penny.
