Caraval 4* Life and Death (Twilight Reimagined) 3* This book hurt my brain. The only reason it got 3 stars is because the ending was different than the original. Crooked Kingdom 5* I will read anything this woman writes. Woman No. 17 4* Unexpected but interesting. Visions of Sugar Plums 2* I don't know why I keep going with this series. It was recommended to me by 2 people that I like a lot but I'm starting to judge their taste in books a little bit. I keep holding out hope that the more recent books will be better and less corny. That being said, at least they are short.
For September I was at 36/52 which was 4 behind. I am on track to have more pages than last year though.
RoomHate by Penelope Ward *** Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay *** Riveted by Jay Crownover ** Idol by Kristen Callahan **** The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout ** (this one is so mediocre that I don't remember what it's about) Managed by Kristen Callahan **** Flesh by Kylie Scott ** The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan **** On The Fence by Kasie West **** The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines *** The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines *** Hard to Be Good by Laura Kaye ***
12 for September. Some were really sub par romances. 3 stars on some were generous. I feel like there aren't enough romances that are decent books and somewhere between really saccharin sweet and whips and chains. I'm striking out lately.
ETA: I'm at 103 for the year. Ahead of schedule on my goal of 117. I think I might hit 130 this year!
litskispeciality , - I've been planning to read The Woman in Cabin 10. You just reminded me to add it to my list.
snshne322 , - I read Sarah's Key, too! It was so good...it still sticks with me. That's all I will say.
**** Sarah's Key - Tatiana De Rosnay - I liked this book. It's somewhat haunting. I find myself thinking of it often. **** Lilac Girls: A Novel - Martha Hall Kelly - I enjoyed this book, even though I'm not always a fan of alternating character views. It was easy to follow though, and it kept me interested.
I didn't have a goal in September, as I just got back into reading. I started working on the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge (nerd alert), so I'm excited about that.
3 stars Coming in from the Cold by Sarina Bowen The Viscount and the Vixen by Lorraine Heath Grave Dance (#2 in series) by Kalayna Price Feeling Hot by Elle Kennedy
3.5 stars Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey Satan's Sword (#2 in series) by Debra Dunbar
4 stars Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo
4.5 stars All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai
5 stars What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton
Totals for the year so far: 121 books/44,093 pages

42. She Lover of Death, Boris Akunin 4 **** 43. Murder She Baked: Death by Panna Cotta, Luna Snow 4 **** 44. Home by Nightfall, Charles Finch 5 ***** 45. The Opening Night Murder, Anne Rutherford 4 **** 46. The Bride Wore Starlight, Lizabeth Selvig 4 ****
Home by Nightfall was really very good, and I enjoyed it very much.
She Lover of Death was a disappointment. Erast Fandorin is my book crush and this book was just a dreadful date with him. Each book in the series is a different style mystery and this one was just not good. I didn't enjoy it, Erast seemed out of character and it was just not the fun read I was hoping for. It was a well-crafted mystery, but overall, not the best of the series and totally skippable.
I'm at 46 books toward my goal of 48 for the year and 30 of 40 for my Monopoly Challenge. I think I'm doing pretty well. I don't keep track of pages and though Goodreads does, it's incorrect because a couple of the books I read were part of of omnibus editions and Goodreads assumes I read the whole omnibus edition, when I only read part. (These particular books are not available outside the omnibus editions, or I would have listed the individual books rather than the omnibus.)
All of my September reads were four stars, so good month! Funny you asked about page numbers because I was just thinking I should add them up. Doesn't Goodreads do that for me?
The Mists of Avalon, Marion Zimmer Bradley. I wish I'd read this when I was younger because I definitely think it gets better with rereads. But at 912 pages, I'm not likely to.
The One and Only Ivan, Katherine Applegate. My son was surprised when he brought it home from the library and I said I was reading it, too. He's now recommending his favorite books to me. I'm creating my own book club buddy!
Kindred, Octavia Butler. If you haven't read this one, you should!
The Essence of Malice by Ashley Weaver 2* -- this series is hit or miss for me, and I was not a fan of this installment A Symphony of Echoes by Jodi Taylor 3* Sourdough by Robin Sloan 4.5*
Several 5 stars: The Obelisk Gate and The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin (you all need to go read this trilogy) Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng Glass Houses by Louise Penny
In the app or should I use the website? I don't see a "stats" button in the app. I can sort by number of pages, but it doesn't add them.
On the website. The stats is near the other sorting stuff.
Thanks! I see the button, but not all my books are listed. For 2017, it says there are 25 books, but when I click, only two show up (and not the most recent, two). I'll have to play around with it, I guess.
