Our dishwasher broke. The repair guy came out today and got it running. But apparently, something inside is cracked and will eventually need to be replaced. It could hold out for a week, it could hold out for a year, he has no clue.
The piece that needs to be replaced is pricey, in the $500 range. So we can pay $500 to get it fixed.
They gave us a voucher for $100 if we buy a new GE dishwasher in the next 30 days and replace it. And they start in the $450-500 range.
We can hold off on doing anything as long as possible and buy a new one if it comes down to it down the road, but no $100 voucher.
The repair guy says he'd go with option 3 (and hope it lasts longer than a few weeks). I would prefer to go with option 2. DH votes for option 1.
Option 2 all the way if you can afford it. Do not want to play appliance roulette.

k3am, this is really obvious to me. A GE washer costs 500 dollars. The part costs 500 dollars. Your GE washer is working but broken.
I would get a brand new washer for 500-100=400. You've saved money on the part that costs as much as the machine, and now have a new machine you don't have to worry about dying on you.
Celebration 1: my vision for the focal wall in DDs room came together and was not a Pinterest fail.
Celebration 2: the bench I wanted my dad and DH to build came out better then I expected and it looks great.
Vent: I am really frustrated with one of my General foreman who keeps putting crew members on multiple time sheets for the same day and then leaves one guy randomly off. I have to run payroll tomorrow and he never responded to my voicemail or emails. I ended up involving our district manager to see if he can speed things up.
DH's insistence on replacing it was throwing me for a loop. He's usually pretty rational when it comes to finances. I had already told the guy we'd plan on buying a new one and DH acted like I was a crazy lady, which had me second guessing myself.
campermom, DD1's recovery for the second set of tubes and adenoids out was very similar to when she got the first set out. She was completely fine by the afternoon. I remember doing soft foods and liquids for a couple days after but she didn't complain much.
