Do any of you have legal insurance through your employer? We will have open enrollment soon and I saw a brochure for this. We don't have major needs for legal services but could use eyes on our tax return, some tax advice, some property/aging parent counsel, some contract review, someone to draft a will...seems like all of this could be covered but $17/month sounds to good to be true and I am assuming that there will be fees of some sort. Just wondering if I should just keep searching for a family attorney on my own...
I signed up for it last year during open season. We got it because we needed wills. It was well worth it. For $20 a month (~$200/year), we got wills, advanced directives, and powers of attorneys for both DH and I. Our lawyer told us we got a hell of a deal because for the wills alone she charges $600 each. We walked out with over $2400 in legal documents for both of us. I don't plan on signing up for it again this year only because we don't really have a need but it's definitely worth it if you know you will need it. ETA: you do have to use one of their affiliated lawyers but they have a list of all in your area to choose from.
I have this through work and used it when we bought a house, and again when my son was the beneficiary of a large-ish life insurance policy. We've kept it intending to get our wills one, but also just because you never know what might come up, and the price is pretty low in the scheme of things.
