My mom sells Medicare supplement insurance plans to seniors. She's done it since they were invented and she's really good at it (top salesperson in the country the last five years). She's also in declining health and experiencing what many older women experience in the work place (i.e. she's being pushed out). The reason she hasn't retired yet is because the bulk of her paycheck comes from retentions - $5/month per person she's enrolled who's still on the plan (and not dead). Her base salary is a few bucks above minimum wage, plus a healthy commission, but the retentions are free money.
Guys - my mom was offered an early retirement - 6 months salary and ALL HER RETENTIONS! Plus she leaves after open season ends in December, so she will bust her ass for the very last time and keep the rewards for doing so. And she anticipates that the business in general will be shifted to brokers, and she's already set up to be one!
She surmised that the very unexpected and generous offer is related to the panic and uncertainty in the insurance market, so for the only time ever, let me say "Thanks, Cheeto"
Several of husband's aunts jumped out of a plane over the weekend. The tandem jump package included a video and the cheeseball filming it has a "any last wishes, pin numbers, etc you'd like to pass along?" line he does. My favorite of his aunts cracks back with, "no, you can just get all that from experian if I die."
Ha!! i love her. She was always the aunt my H was closest to as a kid - she took him and his cousins on trips all over the place - and she lives right down the street from us so we see her a lot. I was actually kinda scared of her at first - she's got a sharp tongue! but now that i know her better, she's hilarious. Totally my people.

We went to see a local production of "Singin' in the Rain" yesterday. During one of the songs, an old man behind me started singing along. I turned around to give him a mild dirty look, and saw he was singing to the woman with him, who was trying to shush him. They were so cute that I couldn't be mad.
It reminded me of my grandparents, who saw it in the movie theater for their first date, so I was teary for the rest of the show.

DH got a job offer today! He was laid off in June, 9 days after we closed on our house. The job is almost 20% less than what he was making, and doesn’t have very good time off, but it’s a job and there’s a possibility of rapid promotion.
I’m just so relieved. I tried not to show it, but I had been worrying about what we’d do if he still didn’t have one when his unemployment ran out.
I was going thru the photos from the conference and found picture of me giving my presentation.
Strangely, I like this photo. Not sure why.
Because you look like you know your shit! Not that I doubted it, but the picture exudes confidence.
That was exactly what I thought on seeing that picture. It’s like a stock photo of a professional woman giving a presentation.
My good news. I haven’t had a headache in over a week (!) so I guess it was rebound headaches. Still need to schedule the MRI. Working on adding exercise this week to see if exertion is the trigger.
