I mean talking on the phone. My mom calls me, almost daily, sometimes multiple times, and seems to think I should be able to have 15-30 minute conversations. I don’t even have things to say for that long honestly! She’s then surprised or bothered that there is noise in the background and comments about how chaotic it is. Well yes, three unsupervised children do end up getting loud. Anyway, how much time do you spend just chatting on the phone for no reason other than being social?
0-5 minutes, usually 0. I usually am on the phone to book an appointment, or if DH calls to say he'll be late (although he'll usually just text).
If my mom/dad calls to chat it might be 15-20 mins, but that's usually only about once a week-ish. They're literally the only person I spend any time talking to on the phone.
@momin203 yes!!! Just to make appointments! My mom doesn’t have a personal cell and is convinced her work would take issue with her using that cell to text so she only uses it if she’s driving. Then she wants to chit chat. I do remember her spending hours on the phone in the evening when I was little so I guess it’s not new, but it’s so annoying!
I actually do talk to my mom quite a bit. She's the only person I really have any sort of long phone chats with, though. Sometimes a medium-call with one of my brothers. I can easily talk to her for like 1/2 hour, though. Not every day, but probably averages 30 minutes. Seems easy to do with making family plans, updating each other on my grandma, the kids, my brothers, etc.
I never really call friends much at all, which seems kind of sad. But it would seem super weird to me to call some of them! I have a lot of people I'm only in touch with via FB or texting and occasional in-person meet ups.

0 on a regular basis. I do talk to my mom and mil occasionally on the phone when we need to discuss things too lengthy to text, maybe once a week or so, but they both totally understand when there is noise in the background and always ask if it's an ok time. And my kids aren't even young, but still make talking on the phone almost impossible! Even at 6 and 8, if I have to call to make an appt. or about something important and I tell them beforehand "I need to focus on this phone call and I need you to not bother me and not be loud for a few minutes" and get them engaged in something like a tv show or something, they still manage to be loud and annoying.
I do talk to my brother about once a month for a good chunk of time, and I also have really lengthy calls with my college girlfriends about 3-4 times a year, but those always take place at a time when we are all kid-free, otherwise it's just chaos.
0-5 minutes a day. If you need me then text me. Then I will call back when I can. I really only call for appointments.
This. I have friends I've never spoken to on the phone. I probably talk to my mom on the phone once or twice a month to make her happy but we text most days.
Maybe 10-15 minutes a day. I talk to my mom most days about 5 minutes or so. DH stays at his apartment right near his office three nights a week so we chat those nights.

Up to an hour a day. I have rather long calls with my sister and best friend a few times a week but background noise and pauses to redirect kids are just part of the deal. My sister has kids too. My best friend usually calls during her commute. I'd laugh so hard if someone wanted to talk but also for my full attention and a silent house. Good luck with that!
Not much. Maybe 10 mins. Some days its more if DH is working and can't come home for lunch we chat, other days his mom will call and keep me for an hour+ but for the most part it's minimal.
