So, I decided to do my best to get my Christmas shopping done early. I am not anywhere near finished but I do have a bunch of things.
My 8yo really wanted a Nintendo Switch and over the summer and they were pretty difficult to find. I luckily did find one and purchased it. Now of course I see them all over the place but I have a feeling it may become exstinct again before Christmas. There really is no telling though. Anyway, over the weekend he started saying he wanted an XBox One or PS4.
I'm thinking WTH kid? I wanted to do the PS4 anyway but he was so insistent on the Switch. And there have been a couple years where his big santa gift was not fulfilled. I was so excited to get this one fulfilled and not worry. All he talked about was the Switch in June so I said "I thought you wanted the Switch?" His response "Well, IDK"
My instinct is to just hold the Switch and see what happens. If it is a HOT toy and he really has changed his mind, I should be able to sell it at face value easy enough. or if he changes back which is a possibility I will have it BUT if he really did change his mind and it is not difficult to find this Christmas I am stuck.
I think I'd hold onto the Switch; I imagine any of those options would be cool so he should be happy to get the Switch. If you return it now, he could very well change his mind back again and then you could have trouble finding it.
FTR, I would love to get a Nintendo Switch. I used to have a Wii and absolutely loved it; I've heard that the Switch is the way to go if you liked the Wii.
The issue I am having is that I would prefer they get exactly what they want with the price of these systems and games. The games for the Switch start at $60-70 new.
Its also not something we will just replace every year you know so if he truly changed his mind? It's fine, I just need him to settle. Either way, whatever they get will be a joint gift. My oldest plays on the XBox 360 we have and is very happy with it so that is why I was leaning toward the system DS2 preferred.
I would rather the Switch, DH would rather the PS4. PS5 is not even anticipated for a couple years so the PS4 will still be relevant for many years it seems.
DS1 wants a gaming computer instead but that is way out of the budget.
