Nothing much new here. Just getting through some hurdles at work with some people who are terrible at HR, so that makes everything difficult. But I am taking tomorrow off and hopefully have a great weekend!
I'm back from my resort scouting trip! We went there intending to stay at one resort, visit a second one, and nail down a decision. The resort we stayed at completely sucked, and we were panicking, so we called a third to set up a visit. Second resort was also not great - resort was nice, they were not prepared to handle a large group like ours. Third resort that we squeezed in literally on the way to the airport was PERFECT! Thank god, because my coworker and I were so afraid to head back to the office with nothing to show for this trip.
But, now we have to plan another visit sometime soon so that we can stay at the good resort and work out more details. We only got to do a quick 1 hour meeting and tour with the groups person there, so definitely didn't get the full experience. I thought it would be a super fun job to tour fancy resorts and make sure they're good enough, but turns out it's just really stressful when the resorts are not the level of quality you were expecting.
We got our new dishwasher yesterday. I'm trying to let go of the fact that it doesn't match perfectly. I'm probably the only person who notices it. We gave it a "test" run yesterday - DD was SO upset that we weren't scrubbing dishes before putting them in like we always have had to. It managed to get them sparkling clean. She'll be happy today when she realizes her job (aka: emptying out lunches, scraping, scrubbing, and loading up the dishwasher) just got a little easier.
k3am, I wish! It's likely going to be a very work-heavy second trip. Like, coordinating party menus, making sure the suite is good enough for the VIPs, negotiating contract rates. Yes, I'll get to enjoy being at a resort, but to put it in perspective - last year on the real trip, I never even put on my bathing suit once.
So football was cancelled for today. Great. I didn't totally freak myself out last night trying to pack for our camping trip since I had a free night tonight. Well. The coach sends out a txt at about noon that he scheduled a game for tonight! What? Who does that? Ds doesn't even have his gear at school. I'd have to drive 50 minutes round trip after work to get it, which would be too late for the bus. Ds called freaking out to begging not to go. He hasn't packed at all, and has 2 big tests tomorrow, which he would have studied extra yesterday if he knew he had a game. Fine don't go. I hate that, but this has been the most unorganized clusterf@$k the entire season.

For those who missed it, we told the Asshole on Tuesday that we've sold the agency. He took it unexpectedly well, but I'm not convinced that he's just going to accept this news without some sort of temper tantrum. It still hasn't happened, but I'm sure when he tells us what payment option he wants he'll throw his fit then. We did present him with 2 severance pay options so that he will help with the transition and renewing business so they aren't learning that there is a new agency and 2 of the agents are leaving all at the same time. He'll phase out as he and my brother meet with clients and then I'll start to phase out next summer to help my brother get through our busy season. I was going to be done around May, but my brother's wife is pregnant and due around the first of June so I told him I'd work through July.
House situation. DH's newest idea is buy his mom's house and property and she build a new one on the same property. It's 15 acres so its not like we have to be that close. She's been talking pretty heavily about building for the last 2-3 years. I've also gotten him to agree to meet with a builder over the winter to discuss our building options again so that when we are able to actually make this decision next summer or fall when we know what kind of money I'll be making, we'll have a plan in place.
I have nothing to update bc my life is boring. I mean, packed with stuff but nothing cool to talk about. Well maybe I'm a fencing mom now.
DS is entering the intermediate fencing class. They earn a nickname as part of their initiation. He's been wearing specific shirts to try to earn something like "neon" or "laser."
Buh bye Saturday's! (And Wednesdays!)
But it's reall, really freaking cool. There are 3 different kinds of weapons with different rules, target areas and styles. He's almost 100% sure he is a Sabre guy but I think he's an Epee guy. Fencing is this awesome world and diverse community and they have so far been welcoming and informative and it's really been an awesome run so far.

So, my aunt doesn't just have cancer in her lungs. She met with her oncology doctor yesterday and found out that the cancer is also in her bones and lymph nodes, and it's stage 4. My dad (it's his sister, who is a year and half younger than him) is taking it pretty well, considering. The doctor is going to have my aunt try a new treatment that attacks just cancer cells, and doesn't have the side effects of chemo.
DH and I got both kids a GizmoGadget so they can call and text us. They arrived today, so we will see how it goes. We wanted them to have something so that when they are with MIL (who can't be trusted, IMO) or my mom, who refuses to get with the times and have her cell phone on ring and in a location she can check it often when she is with the kids, they have a way to get a hold of me or DH if need be. The GizmoGadgets also have GPS, so if we take them to a sports practice or summer camp or to a sleepover, we can keep track of them (and again, they have a way to get a hold of us).
I'm headed to the sports med clinic with DD to make sure the cast is working. Fingers crossed.
DD is a mess because she moved from Algebra back into eighth grade math and her grade is .... zero. I emailed everyone but she is way freaking out. This is my type a NJHS kid, so I hope they respond ASAP.
rere I feel you on schedule chaos. DD's team has a tournament for the next three days. Do I have a schedule? Can DD play? No to both but she has to attend. It's way stressing me out but I am trying to calm myself with the knowledge that at least I don't have to watch because she isn't playing so why would I? One girl is out for grades and one was out last year for injury and their parents still go to all the games. I'm like....nope.
Covergirl82, I've been thinking about getting something like that for my oldest. Let me know what you think.
rere, If your soon has two tests tomorrow I wouldn't make him go. Personally I would be a bit rage at the coach for pulling last minute stuff.
This guy does not have it together at all. I can't even fathom what goes on in his head sometimes. I would wish he wouldn't play next year, but at least this keeps him active. I love this you need to be committed attitude they have with some of these sports. You know what I'm committed to? My job, because it gives me money. And grades, because my kids will need money one day.

sFIL was the same and got 2.5 years out of some of the meds. He mostly died at that point because he had a bad reaction (rash) to a treatment of some kind and had to take time off all meds to heal and it took like 6 months. He was about to try something new and promising. I was freaked by the stats when I Googled but while 2.5 years is not enough of course, it was better than his prognosis and he had really good quality of life.
Update us on the GizmoGadget thing. I have been looking into it for DD.
rere, I would be in your son's shoes and going no I have tests and xyz to do and he said no practice so I had today to do everything. Use the I don't have my stuff since you said we had the night off. My mom can't get it to me before game time so I can't play.
My only update is my mom. She went to the doctor as she was feeling funny and had this weird spot that was bugging her. They biopsied the spot and did a bunch of lab work. Lab work came back in and her kidneys are not working correctly, she is very close to being diabetic but not there yet, and her cholesterol is on the high side but nothing diet change can't fix. Thing is my mom is the world's pickiest eater. Only eats white bread, only fruit she eats is strawberry or red raspberry, only vegetable is corn and russet potatoes and she loves her meat and potatoes with homemade gravy. I'm planning on pushing my dad to have the meet with a nutritionist next week and letting things sink in over the weekend. Just cutting out sweets isn't going to fix any of her issues and all of these little issues could become big issues.
186momx, do we have the same mom? My mom's diet is identical to your mom's. She would honestly rather die than eat a green vegetable other than iceberg lettuce with a crapton of creamy dressing on it. Funny thing is my brother and I both love vegetables. She would spend dinners gagging while we ate a pound of steamed broccoli.
mommyatty, I think so: iceberg lettuce, croutons, and creamy French salad dressing that has to saturate the entire plate is her idea of a salad. She says she has no clue what to feed DD when she is over as DD lives on fruits and veggies. I'm the only one who likes veggies and both my sibs are in the limited veggie eating club. Funny tidbit is I was the only kid who wasn't breastfed and I like my veggies.

I'm glad you all talked me out of bringing in food for my coworker's last day tomorrow. I found out today that she has been spreading rumors about me sleeping with a supervisor that I'm work friends with. Bye Felicia.

I'm on vacation. It's been great hanging out with the kids, but exhausting. DH and I are also connecting better which has been awesome. For the past few months we've just not been connecting well so this had been a nice change.
2chatter - how was the rest of your DH's ear appointment? I don't want to pry but I've been thinking about you guys.
traveltheworld - he said he is going to do it and just has to choose one. But he has done nothing in that direction. I am in this weird encourage but don't push place and wish he would just do it already. Apparently he liked both systems and preferred one slightly so .... it's not like he is waiting for more info even.
