I think I'd like to get a video monitor for DD's room. Ideally, I'd like one that allows me to turn the sound completely off. I'd also like one that uses infrared nightvision rather than LED, since DD gets entranced by light visible in her otherwise dark nursery and will sit up and stare at them rather than lay down and go to sleep. Bonus points if it is MM!
Any recommendations (or, in the alternative, advice about which brands/models NOT to buy)?
Our is Lorex: a CW of DH's talked us into it and it was something I didn't realize I'd love so much. We have a base w/two cameras, which is especially handy now that we've split them up into their own rooms. (ETA: We can shut the sound off on ours: I'd go crazy otherwise.
My only (small) complaint is their customer service: I ordered a cable to replace one that was broken during our move last month. I've had bad luck w/both their online and over the phone C/S reps in trying to buy a replacement. They've sent the wrong cable twice, and have hassled me a little bit on the phone. Here's hoping they're able to get me the right one on the third try: I do not relish the idea of talking with them again.

We have the Summer infant. Love it. We have two cameras (one up on the ceiling and one for travel) and its easy to use. I can turn the sound off and I can move the camera by using the monitor. It's great. And you can buy them everywhere.
We also use the Summer Infant one nightly, and I am happy with it. We had some issues with the signal on the first one, but they sent us a replacement, and things have been fine with that one ever since. We can adjust the camera remotely, zoom, and talk over it. It does have one very, very small light that just indicates it is turned on when it is operating, but that has never seemed to be a problem. I am pretty sure it was over $200, but to me at least, with the amount of use we have already gotten out of it (and hopefully will get out of it in the future), it has definitely been worth it.
We have a Motorola monitor...got it from Amazon (sorry no link!). So far, I really like it. Great range, battery life, and some nice options like a microphone, thermostat, and the ability to play a couple lullabies. It was cheaper than the popular Summer Infant one- I think around $150ish.

We have the Motorola MBP36, and we love it. We ordered it from BBB using a 20% off coupon - that was cheaper than Amazon. It's still not cheap, especially if you add an extra camera, but we use it constantly, so it was worth it for us.
