Morning! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It was super low key which was perfect so I got to spend lots of time with S to make up for my first week back at work.
His neck control is AMAZING right now and he is so fun. I am really stressed about his poor little (big!) flat head though. The doctors are not majorly concerned (it is uneven, so they do have us working on his neck a bit) but that's it. He is hardly on his back with us, except when he sleeps. But he is in his carseat and then the baby bjorn bouncy seat a lot. I finally bought him a little pillow thing that is supposed to help correct a flat head. Someone tell me a story of their flat headed baby having luck with it rounding out a bit??

Our weekend was pretty good, we kept it low key also since we had a family event last night.
shauni27, do you give him floor time? All of E's doctors and therapists are big on floor time, both on belly and back.
E's awake times seem short to me; she can only stay up about an hour fifteen before she's cranky and I put her down for a nap. I'm going to ask the pedi about it next week. I wonder if it's a preemie thing, or she just needs a lot of sleep, or what.

shauni27, what pillow is it? Our PT recommended the Bouffi, but I'm not sure if it will really make a difference. I feel like as much floor time/tummy time as we do, he's still reclining on his head most of the day either napping or leaning in his bouncy chair/swing.
I'm slowly trying to get back into work mode since I go back in two weeks. It's killing me, though. I wish I could stay home with DS forever .
shauni27, A had a pretty bad flat spot across the back of her head because she slept long stretches on her back and took forever to roll. We didn't go the helmet route, mainly because doctors here only prescribe it in extreme cases (facial asymmetry etc). We tried the "up and awake" strategy, but it didn't really improve until she started sleeping on her tummy. She's 21 months old now and it's rounded out considerably, particularly on the top and where her head meets her neck. It's not completely gone, and is more noticeable when her hair is wet. I don't think it's bad enough that other kids will notice, and I think it will continue to round out more as she grows.
loira ,THIS IS EXACTLy what I wanted to hear. They keep saying it will round out once he starts sleeping on his belly, but it's hard for me to fathom! cherryvalance , SQUEEEE! SO CUTE! I hope you enjoy the next two weeks <3 @daylily , now that he is in daycare, we hardly have time with him during the week. We basically feed him and he goes to bed and wakes up to eat and then off to daycare :/

shauni27, awww!! I love the sleepy faces! We have those same jammies, lol.
And thanks, guys! I'm pretty in love with him.
loira, I keep reminding myself of your posts every time I see DS' flat spot and it reassures me. Our pedi seems more concerned about the actual torticollis than the flat spot, but it's so bothersome to me!
I'd ask how much of the day he spends in a chair/bouncer/swing at daycare. It shouldn't be that much. DS's daycare when he was an infant actually had a policy about it. They only had one or two in the infant room and rotated babies through being held, naps, tummy time, and feedings on purpose so that the use of seats was minimal.
they try to rotate it as much as possible with a large focus on tummy time. Other than napping and short stints in the bouncy chair he is on the floor. I did buy them a head pillow as well to use when he is on his back at any time.
@daylily, WHA?? Where were you? We have had the shittiest foliage this year! I think we are in a weird pocket. When we were driving home from Boston a couple of weeks ago it was STUNNING and then you pull into our little valley and it was all brown.
We found out today we are having a baby boy! We were both convinced it was a girl but thrilled nonetheless.
NT scan went well, baby was so stubborn and had his face planted directly into my uterine wall and refused to move his face no matter what the tech tried lol. The tech kept wiggling my stomach with the probe and baby would flail his arms in response but not flip. He finally did flip and then flipped right back to face down seconds later. We were able to get a profile at the end when he lifted his head up for a second.
@daylily shauni27 DH and I made a trip back east 2 weeks ago specifically for the foliage and it was so disappointing. We were in Vermont mainly and our innkeeper was saying it was a really late year for the foliage since it's been so hot and rainy. We were pretty much just getting the beginning of it, when I was expecting it to be everything red, orange and yellow. There was still so much green! Oh well. It was beautiful nonetheless.
@daylily, that is a beautiful mountain! Good for your little guy! The next time you head up to Killington or this area, let me know Especially if you guys take a trip up in the winter months at all. While you likely won't be skiing, if your DH and DS come ski I will happily meet you in the lodge for cocoa (spiked for me, lol!)
The girls will be two weeks tomorrow and it already feels like time is going by too quickly. They melt my heart. I got my leave info, and since I ended up with a c section I am off until January 16. Woohoo!
shauni27, we stayed in Weathersfield, but drove all over the place - Woodstock, Waterbury, Stowe, St. Johnsbury... We spent a few days in Boston as well.
ughhhhh, I just got an email from daycare that in S's room there are 8 kids and THREE of them have Hand, Foot & Mouth.
Fingers crossed he doesn't get it too!
Nooo! Kids are the worst! So germy! Did I mention that A still hasn't completed a full week of daycare? Between the holidays, and her awful cold, and now the daycare teacher and her son are sick (it's a small, in home daycare). Although I'm pretty sure A is the reason they're sick, so it's my kid who's the worst this time. I know I've been so much more productive than I was in September, but damn if I don't feel I'm always playing catch up.
shauni27, E had a bit of flat head that I was concerned about but our doctor wasn't. It started rounding out once he started sitting up more. Once he could sit with support, I started putting him in the exersaucer to keep him off his back. Carrying him in a carrier counts as tummy time too.
And HFM is going around our city right now. No reported cases at daycare yet, but it is in our newspaper.

shauni27, C has/had a really flat head, too. We’ve been seeing a PT for it since he was 6 months in July and it’s a huge help. He’s a bit delayed because his head is SO big so his gross motor skills are behind. As soon as we learned the flatness was a problem we got rid of our bouncy chair and stopped laying him on his back except for sleep. We also asked daycare to do the same. It was tough for a while but is making a huge difference. I think it’s already rounding out and he’s not quite 10 months. I was really panicking about it for a while but not any more. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Me too I'm extending my leave because I don't want to go back. I know He will be how with DH but I'm struggling. How old will he be when u go back?
The leaves here suck too. We usually have great #colors but it's awful this year.
J has his 2 month shots tomorrow and I'm dreading them. Anything I should know?
thoseareradishes j can only stay up for 1.5 hours most times though he has stayed up for 2 hours at a time but gets really cranky . Some people seem surprised he doesn't stay up longer but I know he needs the sleep.
I've been doing a little better. They increases my meds, DH has been getting better when J cries, and my parents are coming this weekend to watch j while we go to dinnef. So I feel like things are getting better and my anxiety has lessened though it's still there.

He'll be 14 weeks. He turns three months a couple days before I go back.
I'm fortunate that I was even able to take this time off because I usually work all summer and didn't this year, so that was a financial hit, and I'll owe back pension, dues, etc when I return. For a while, I was thinking I'd have to go back at 4-5 weeks pp (H had surgery earlier in the year and ate up a lot of his PTO) since we don't have maternity leave/PTO and DS was due in the summer. So it did work out nicely and I'm so glad I got this time with him, but it's sad that it's ending.
At least my mom is taking him, so that makes it easier for me.
cherryvalance yeah I didn't work all.summer either so that was 10 weeks without a paycheck. I get 6 weeks maternity leave if I use sick days and my midwife wrote me out for 2 more.so I've been paid the last 8 weeks but I'm taking another 8 weeks which will be unpaid but it'll be worth it. My plan initially was 6 weeks paid 6 weeks unpaid but now im taking 4 additional weeks. J is already starting to get a little easier (most days though we still have some rough ones) and in somewhat of a routine ( just meaning we have a roytine to go to sleep...not a scheduled nap time) and I want something established before I go back to work and leave him with dh.
King26, I'm glad you are feeling a little better <3. Also, as for 2 month shots, give J a dose of tylenol about 30 minutes before you go. Then continue the tylenol every 4 hours for a bit. We could tell S had a fever after his shots and was a little fussy, but not too bad. His fever got up to 101 and lasted for about 20 hours, so we just did tylenol every 4 hours for that time period. It was really much easier than anticipated. Good luck!
@chrystanthemum, what did you do with C while you were cooking, doing stuff, etc? If he cannot be in his bouncy seat or on the floor I am not really sure what to do with him when we are doing things that we cannot hold him, you know? He doesn't love being worn.
I put him in the bumbo a bit now as his neck control is about 99%. But until it is 100% I am not comfortable having him in there for more than a few closely supervised visits.
Also, what kind of things do you guys do for PT? Would love to get some ideas from you.

Hey ladies! Not a ton going on here...just hanging out and looking forward to the weekend!! WE're doing a pumpkin carving brunch date with boiler717, so I can't wait for that! Otherwise, should be a relaxing weekend!!!
King26 - honestly, nothing much you should know. I wouldn't give him tylenol before his shots, because new research is showing that it can decrease the effectiveness of the vaccines. Plus, he might not even spike a fever (G didn't), so no need to give it before it's necessary. G slept more than normal, but no real fussiness or fever. He has his 4 month shots in 2 weeks, so hopefully they go as well as the 2 month ones.
