At what point do you cut your losses with a makeup item and just toss it?
I've been working on a small Bare Minerals lip gloss and it has gotten to the point that I need to re-dip the applicator 6 times to cover my lips because I'm scraping the bottom. There is about a quarter of an inch left in the tube, but the tube is only about an inch and a half long to begin with.
It's getting annoying, but at the same time, I want to use as much as possible. I'm contemplating tossing it after today and just calling it empty.
If it's my favorite then I figure out a way to get every last drop. If it's just something I'm using then I toss it when it gets to the annoying stage.

I toss it when it gets annoying, because I also think about how germy those last few bits are. (Even if they're scientifically no more than the rest, it creeps me out.)
You can pull the stopper out of the lipgloss with a pair of tweezers and get the rest of it out easier. For me I'll toss a product if it becomes annoying to use up the last little bit. I don't like repressing powders much so I won't bother getting the outside ring once whatever brush I use doesn't pick up product. I figure if I've used up 80-90% I've gotten my money's worth. I'll also toss a product if it starts irritating my skin in some way.

This is what I do. Though I'm trying to purge stuff so I've been really trying to re-evaluate what works and what doesn't and then tossing if it just isn't working for me.

I did this with a concealer this summer. The concealer started leaking out once it was in my makeup bag, so I vowed to never do that again.

The decision to give up on a product was made for me today when the outer ring of product of a pressed powder decided to just crumble and fall out all over my shirt. I should have gave up a long time ago because it was getting annoying to use but I was determined to use up a pressed powder product for the first time in years.
This is reminding me that I really need to find another home for a couple of foundations that didn't work for me. One used once (pump bottle), the other never used since it's the same shade.

Also, if I don't like a bigger/deluxe size sample upon first use, I will toss it or give it away. I have so many samples that I have stopped feeling bad about it.
I'm just a lurker here, trying to get more into makeup/skincare, but here's an idea for a donation place that will take donations of (some) used makeup if you feel too bad juat throwing stuff out. I'm workimg on getting a donation together myslef.
