Title sounds bitchy, but I need feedback. I’m hosting a party next week for my neighbors. None of them have been in my house. I keep a clean house, but I want to make sure that I’m hitting any overlooked areas. So, what do you judge? For me, it’s the range top and the fridge. If they look dirty, I feel like the rest of the kitchen is too.
Clean bathroom, and kitchen if you are serving food.
I was fairly grossed out recently when I stayed at someone's house and they hadn't vacuumed. I may not have noticed if I was there for just a couple of hours, but we spent 3 nights there and the floors were gross. It just made me feel like the whole place was dirty.
I would never notice things like dust (unless it was super caked on or something), cleaned baseboards, or other deep cleaning type stuff. I also don't care about clutter unless it's clearly garbage or dirty laundry or something.
And I guess I should add- I almost feel like judge is the wrong word for me. You do you, and if you want to keep your house dirty I don't think you're a worse person for it. But I do get slightly grossed out using a bathroom with a dirty toilet and hair/toothpaste all over the sink and hair all over the floor, etc. I just don't want to touch anything.

The same empty toilet paper roll on the floor that's been there since the last time we were over.
I don't know that judge is the right word, but I do take notice. My bff grew up in a house where it was ok for their dogs to pee and poop all over the house (and it wasn't exactly a priority to be cleaned up, either). Now that I would judge.
My current bil (DH and I were not married yet) kept his house so dirty that the bar of soap he had at the bathroom sink was brown with dirt. That was past my limit. Even your SOAP is dirty!?!
If don't just judge too much. For the most part I am way more picky about my house when guests come over than when we go to someone else's. A relatively clean bathroom and kitchen, no foul odors . . . That's all I really care about at others'.
Mostly just if it's neglectfully dirty, especially for a planned gathering. Like, I get it if I drop in on short notice - but if you invited me, and maybe even other people, over for a party or a meal, I'm pretty grossed out if you have dirty toilets, dirty counters, etc.
I judge heavy animal smells, and am always paranoid that we have dog smell that I don't notice. My SIL's house REEKS of cat pee. It's so, so bad.
If you're having guests I think your house should be clean. Whatever that definition is to you. So if you think you keep a clean house (and I'm sure you do!) then I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. Relax and enjoy! Just don't run out of alcohol- that's the quickest way to kill a party!

This. The fact that you're even asking - whatever you do will be just fine.
I judge next to nothing but I also don't seem to have friends/ family who have bathrooms or kitchens so dirty that I notice!

I only care if things look visibly dirty. I can't believe some of you are examining layers of dust and determining which is old dust and which is new dust.
Not a whole lot (I live in a tiny ass apartment with 3 little kids and 2 dogs, my house is never clean anymore.) but the one thing that did gross me out recently was hair on someone’s toilet. Like you knew a shit ton of people were coming over, wipe the pubes off the bowl 🤢
My house gets dirty so quickly it's overwhelming so this thread is freaking me out. I had no idea people were looking so closely!
I would probably notice if the toilet bowl was super dirty. It takes just a few seconds to do a quick clean with the brush!
Honestly.
I was at a preschool birthday party at someone's home a few weeks ago and there was a used pull-up in the corner of the bathroom. She has twins. I wasn't grossed out. I thought "she must be so exhausted, throwing a party, getting the house ready, dealing with twins under her feet". Sympathy, man. It also made me feel a little better about the pile of dirty laundry in the corner of our downstairs bathroom.

Maybe it was from one of the MANY house guests that were there...?
