Just wondering what everyone is doing at school today? We've been told over and over that the school is all inclusive meaning they celebrate no holidays and to not dress your kid up and to ask them not to talk about Halloween.
DD choose to wear her witch t-shirt with a black skirt and orange and black tights and we added witch hat bows to her pigtails. Before/After care has been doing tons of Halloween stuff all month LOL
They are allowed to wear costumes. Absolutely no candy is allowed at school. If you put a piece in their lunch they would take it away and not let them eat it. No parade or anything for the parents. They had a dance on Friday but she's in kindergarten and didn't mention wanting to go, so I didn't bring it up.
DS goes to daycare; they did their "harvest" party last Thursday. No costumes, but it was cute. Today they're not really doing anything special, except they close early so the teachers can get home to do trick or treat with their kids. ToT is 6p-8p on the dot here.
DD is on her first field trip today. Two weird things. 1. No parents are allowed to chaperone. My working mom guilt heaved a big sigh of relief. And then the hysteria from other moms made me completely understand why the school prohibits parents. There would have been 4 adults for every kid. 2. They had to wear their uniforms. To the arboretum. I get that it makes them easy to spot, but those are expensive clothes! I’d rather she muck around in play clothes or matching tee shirts.
They put on costumes in the afternoon and do a school-wide parade that parents can come watch. I am not going, but DH and my mom are. After the parade, DD2's K class is doing a craft/snack until school is over. I do not know what DD1's class is doing after the parade.
DS1 had a little Halloween parade at his preschool yesterday that the parents were allowed to attend. Today they had a party in the classroom. The preschool hands out treats, because they don't want parents to feel obligated or left out. They also only do healthy snacks, so they dictate what is brought into the classroom.
DD has a Halloween party at school today. Parents who are interested can sign up to help with the party, but you have to be selected to actually attend. The parents are responsible for coming up with some games or a craft to fill the 45 minute party. The kids can hand out treats, but only the PTO approved snack can be consumed in the classroom (so they don't have to worry about allergies). There is no Halloween parade at her school.
mommyatty, Our first field trip is this week too! The form specifically stated that you can volunteer to chaperone, but the actual chaperones are chosen by lottery. I thought that was genius!
mommyatty, DD's class is really large and her teacher had enough people want to volunteer for the pumpkin patch that we had small groups of 3 kids. If the class is small and she already has paid helpers I could see why she might not want the headache of chaperones fighting over who gets to going.
DD1 had a school-wide parade in costumes first thing this morning, then they could change into PJs for the rest of the day. Teachers wanted the costumes off after the parade, which is understandable.
DD2 had her preschool party yesterday because she doesn't go today. Parents handed in treats to the teachers in advance (if they wanted to participate), and then the teachers put together goody bags. Despite repeated requests for non-food treats, and being a strict peanut-free and candy-free school, DD came home with a Snickers bar. 😳
They wear costumes and do a little parade around the college campus they are located on. They may have additional classroom activities, but don’t do a candy exchange.
Each kid had a class party. The were allowed to wear costumes all day. I tried to limit the candy at the party I was running by the other class party was a junk explosion.
Nothing today. They did their Halloween Party on Friday, which at first I thought was a little weird, but in the end I think it was better to spread it out. He got excited multiple times, but not so super excited ever that he couldn't settle. The kids wore their costumes to school and they had a party. It was cute and Levi said it was fun. Parents weren't invited to attend, and I was perfectly ok with that.
Costumes all day. Class parties right after lunch, then a parade around the neighborhood, then soft pretzels and water before dismissal.
I think it might all be a genius candy-suppressing plan? The parade route is actually pretty long. And then the kids eat a whole soft pretzel. I think our ToT-ing might be pretty short this year if DD is already full and tired of walking!

My son’s kindergarten class is visiting the retirement community down the street, which they do on a monthly basis. I’m not sure if there is candy involved, but I think the kids are reciting a Halloween-themed poem to their “Grandpals”. DS did a bit for me this morning. Apparently they practiced it five times yesterday!
Yeah, the homework sucks. I delivered dinner to her room. She had three papers, two tests, science fair benchmarks, Spanish, a review packet for two other tests and some miscellaneous stuff. It’s this bad about once a month around test time. It makes me sad.
