E has reflux - her main issue is choking on spit-up. She also spits up a lot in general. We did not treat until I felt like it was distressing her - she choked and could not catch her breath and it was really scary for both of us. She takes Zantac 2x per day, and it definitely helps. Zantac does not stop reflux (so she still chokes every once in a while), but makes it stop burning. The pedi suggested sleeping on an incline, but I was not comfortable with that since at the time she was sleeping on her side. Her gastroenterologist was happy with her treatment plan when I took E in for another opinion. She mentioned cereal, but I said we hadn't started solids yet so she said never mind.
He's only 10 weeks and I worry he will choke on the oatmeal in the bottle. He chokes anyhow sometimes so I worry. He's a happy spitter upper but will scream while eating sometimes and the spit up has turned into projectile vomit the last few days

Hmm, that's interesting that your doctor is recommending the oatmeal first. Mine recommended propping him up after feedings for 20-30 minutes, using Gerber Soothe drops, burping frequenting, etc, then we moved to Zantac when he was still crying and arching his back after feedings. He never projectile vomited, though, so that could be a difference.
I think he's mostly grown out of it, though. He's able to eat without the screaming-crying, so we only give the Zantac when he seems to have bad bouts of spitting up or starts to throw himself back during feeding.
P will suddenly cough/choke sometimes. It's a little scary but he never seems stressed out about it, so we haven't done anything yet. But with the projectile, I'd definitely want to do something. I hope he feels better soon, poor little guy

C had reflux diagnosed at his 8 week appointment and the doctor prescribed Zantac. For some reason, I was resistant to it at the time. Until the day when he screamed through a mommy/baby yoga class and another mom kindly talked with me about how it would be ok. I’m so glad we started it because C felt much better on it. We put it in his bottles twice a day. Adjusting the dose as he gained weight was important to keep it effective. We tried weaning him at 6 months and he wasn’t ready. We tried again at 8 months and it worked.
I hadnt heard the idea about adding oatmeal to a bottle as a reflux treatment. If you’re more comfortable with Zantac, can you just ask his doctor to try that first?
E did. I didn't think so at first because he nursed well and gained weight and didn't mind laying flat on his back. But omg he cried all the time. And spit up all the time. But at his 2 month appointment, our doctor suggested it after hearing him cry. We put him on zantac and the difference was night and day. He stayed on the Zantac until he was 6 months old and sitting well (so his stomach acid was generally staying IN his stomach).
We did the oatmeal in the bottle too (also per doctor's suggestion) but it didn't help him keep his milk in his belly so I gave up on that. Enfamil AR is the same concept (it's thickened with rice starch).

Quite a few of the women on my BMB have babies with reflux. At least 2 of them did oatmeal early on and it helped with the projectile vomit. If anything, I’d say it’s worth a try.
One of the other moms is using the AR formula and that has helped a ton, she said.

We switched to the AR enfamil formula. Dr wouldn't diagnose A with reflux bc she was gaining weigh., Even though she was spitting up every single bottle of pumped milk or regular formula. We switched to feeding her upright propped up against our thighs, keeping her upright after all feeds, switched to a bottle nipple that was vented, and switched to enfamil AR. It comes with added rice so didn't have to mess with adding oatmeal to bottles myself.
She's outgrown it and we're back on regular formula now.
Thanks ladies. We tried the oatmeal in one bottle but it was a mess. I think we might try the formula that is already thickened. He is spitting up multiple times after every feed and even spit up twice in his sleep last night. It's getting worse instead of better.
