All my posts here seem to be long shots. Anyone here have experiences with arachnoid cysts?
DS (18 months) was born with an off the charts head which has progressively increased and is not tracking to a normal growth curve. He had an ultrasound around 10 months, which came up "normalish" - he was right on the cusp of being too late to see much, but what they did see appeared normal.
DD (4.5) has had two brain tumors, and with her history, her pediatrician and neurosurgeon elected to get him an MRI just to confirm that nothing unusual was going on... unfortunately, the results we got were that he has what appears to be an arachnoid cyst, approximately 5cms. (For comparison, DD's most recent tumor was 7x4x6 mms, so it's pretty big in comparison)
We have an appointment with the neurosurgeon for Tuesday, but I'm hoping for helpful anecdotes or information anyone here may have. Google tells me that it's not that uncommon and that they may choose to do nothing, but may also need to resect it or place a shunt.
I don't really know what I'm looking for here... Questions I should ask at our appointment next week, maybe? What to expect? I just don't know...
