DD (2) has been having yucky diapers for about 2 weeks but has been feeling fine, eating, etc. Saturday morning she threw up once and would only take a few bites of food the rest of the weekend. Monday she had a low grade fever and was just really clingy and fussy. I took her to the doctor yesterday morning and she's got a double ear infection. Doctor also mentioned that a stomach bug was going around. DH has had an upset stomach over the weekend but otherwise feels fine. He thought it was because he ate too much fried/junk food this weekend. Then yesterday afternoon I started getting nauseous and my stomach was hurting. I felt pretty crummy last night but took a few doses of Pepto and this morning I'm feeling much better. I've been able to have coffee and eat.
So. DS's 5th birthday party is scheduled for this Saturday afternoon at our house. Do you think that's long enough away that we can safely have the party at our house? I really, really don't want to cancel or reschedule. But I'm feeling guilty because I think the most cautious thing would be to cancel/reschedule. Are we terrible people if we don't reschedule? Is there any amount of sanitizing that I can do that would insure no one else gets sick?
If you’re all well by Thursday, I think you’re fine. It sounds like you are better this morning, so as long as no one else goes down, you should be okay.

I agree with mommyatty that if you're all feeling well by Thursday, it should be okay to hold the party on Saturday. However, the Mayo Clinic website say that stomach viruses can be shed by people during the incubation period and up to two weeks after the person is considered "recovered." So I would say that whatever sanitizing is possible within reason, do your best to do it. If you can get an essential oil diffuser and a germ-killing essential oil blend (such as Young Living's Thieves), that is a good way to kill germs in the air and on surfaces in rooms.
I️ would make the decision on a Friday and hire a cleaner to sanitize on Saturday (because I would not have bandwidth to do it). Fingers crossed!
Just by chance our house cleaners come tomorrow. I don't know if they wipe down doors and such though. I'll probably get a bucket of soapy bleach water and just wipe down the kitchen, bathroom doors/sinks, door handles, etc.
welly01 - I am a Lysol freak when someone has a stomach thing - it works! Don’t forget light switches, microwave and fridge handle, underside of any counter/bars/tables people touch, headboards, dining chair arms, soap dispensers and steering wheel and controls in your car. I am admittedly over the top but it works!!
I think most likely they could get it from the toilets, so make sure the cleaners also clean them with something that kills germs. Then I would air the house out as much as possible and sanitize everything else. Provided everyone is well today going forward you could be OK.
Hopefully everyone is feeling better today for the party. If you know that any of the kids coming have medical problems you might just want to give their parents a heads up, and let them make the call. I know for Levi we like to at least have a heads up that something may be coming down the pipeline and determine if he can go to something based on what his current counts are. And we would be extra on top of a party at a house that just had a stomach bug go thru (hand sanitizer, watching what he touches and eats, etc).

No one has medical problems and the party will only be 3-4 kids. It's mostly just family and a few friends. But very good point!
