Walking the kids to school in booties with cropped jeans at 43 degrees and drizzly alerted me to how unsustainable booties are for winter. My feet are freezing because I am wearing tiny sock liners so they don’t show and there’s a very cold patch of skin exposed above the booties. I am over tall boots over jeans (I️ think these are phasing out??) and think I am over shorter fuzzy boots. Ballet flats are also cold.

Are you in my brain? I have the exact same question and issue! I WFH so some days I wear sneakers but I’m looking for something that is fashionably casual - in between tall boots and sneakers that I can wear with a sweater and jeans. I will be following very closely.
ETA: I can’t seem to find booties that I like and I’m not an UGG fan but have seen some more tailored UGG-type ankle boots I was thinking of trying out.
erinshelley21 I love the Sperry duck boots. DD is getting them in a size I can also wear if I️ wear extra socks when I find them on sale...but I feel like they are hard to wear with a button down and cardigan. They are more T-shirt and TNF. What’s the slightly fancier upgrade?
justcheckingin73 - tailored shorter UGG style would be great! I wear my UGG slippers as shoes when I am desperate. Do you have any image links? A google search didn’t get me there. Or maybe it did? I need help!
My booties are taller and almost ankle boots as they zip on the side. It could be a good compromise between tall boots and the booties you currently have.

The “tailored” UGG was something that came up on FB and I didn’t save it. I thought maybe it was a Muk Luk but I couldn’t find anything on their site that resembled what I saw. I found one option that might work. I’ll have to keep looking.
Yes, I have a pair of ankle length skinny jeans that I wear with them and I just pull the bottom of the jeans over the boot which is only an inch or so. These aren't mine but something similar www.rackroomshoes.com/122477/ROSETTA.prod
I live in MI, so I don't wear the rain boot I shared above in the winter (usually Fall and Spring). We have to have serious winter boots with lake-effect snow.
For serious snow I have a pair of bogs, that are great. We get a lot of snow in Wisconsin.....For everyday going to work, I have some ankle boots that I wear with socks, and then tuck the socks under my skinny jeans or work pants.

I am going to continue to wear booties. As long as I am not walking in more than a few inches of snow I should be good. If my legs are cold I will wear long socks or leggings underneath if necessary.
Ok well you all know I am not fashionable. So for every day, tennis shoes with my orthotics because I am an 80 year old living in a 30+ year old body.
I have black and gray booties, but I always wear them with actual socks and long pants and they are waterproof. You can buy the spray if you need to. Again, I am not know for my fashion but I wear these either with long skinny jeans tucked in or with bootcut/ flared jeans over them. Oh and I guess mine are a bit taller than some booties.
Are boot toppers just for tall boots? I see some pictures with booties, but I am not sure how I feel about that. I have boot toppers and warmers JIC. I mean if tights are thrown out as an option, these aren't too far out there. I have prepped my life for apocalyptic cold and snow, so I may be a bit extra.
S/O booties, I bought these in black during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and they're really comfortable. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to wear them without looking like a dork. I've tried the rolled skinny jeans/pants thing, and tried them with skirts (with and without tights). Maybe I just need more of a heel since I have short legs? I have some heeled booties that I like, but they're not really practical for walking to school or being out with the kids. Anyone have any advice?
sdlaura - I think the jeans make the difference! I’m Wearing super similar booties and had the same issue. AEO super skinny in short mean one small cuff over the bootie and they look perfect. My longer Silver jeans looked stupid. I go higher heel with skirts and dresses, but I am short. I also pretty much never wear my Flat booties for the same reason.

I think those duck boots are adorable for weekend wear. Unfortunately if nothing else, they'd be too hot inside around here, though. Also it's not like it snows so rainy weather is all we have.
All my boots come from clarks. I HAVE to have comfort in my shoes or I don't wear them and I find clarks to be super comfy.
