S was born with a blocked tear duct. It has been just about 4 months and it is still super blocked. I tried putting breastmilk in his eye when I was still breastfeeding and pumping and I have done warm compacts and massage in the area of the duct. Nothing has helped at this point. I am sure the kid is getting sick of me poking at his eye and always trying to remove the gunk.
The doctors keep telling me he will be fine and it will eventually open up, but I am frustrated. It has been 4 months! Anybody have experience with this? Any words of advice?
I have seen lots of kids with this issue and my son has it too. The massage can definitely help, but most of what helps is time. Pediatricians don't worry unless it's not gone by the time they are a year old. Most of the babies I see with it have their symptoms resolve by 6-9months of age. I would do the massage when you can, but don't stress too much about it.
Z relentlessly had blocked tear duct issues for the first 5ish months at least. I did everything you've mentioned trying, and it always cleared it up but it always came back. Eventually it went away and never came back. Hopefully that will happen soon for your little guy too!
A has blocked tear ducts. It was in both eyes when she was really little, then just one eye at 4 months when she had a bad cold. Then it went away until this past weekend (7.5 months). Doc said it may appear worse when fighting a cold or if she gets super upset. They won't do anything until she turns a year, and in the meantime they said just use warm washrags and massage it.
grover, it is certainly worse when he has a cold or is having a crying fit. It's just that it has been 24/7 for four months now, I had hoped it would go away before too long.
