See if we can keep this board going. We’ve had a busy week and will have a busy weekend then there’s thanksgiving . Kids had off last Tuesday so we took them to see the Pokémon movie Monday night. Then hit up the museum of science on Tuesday. Then they had off Friday. My parents came down Thursday and stayed until Saturday night. We saw movies on Friday and Saturday. Yay for free babysitting!
This weekend we have a karate tournament on Saturday in Springfield. So we’ll take off Friday morning so the kids can enjoy the pool at the hotel. We’re only staying one night. Thanksgiving is Friendsgiving for us. D is taking off Wednesday to help prep.
Ugh, I don't know what happened, but this fall has been C-R-A-Z-Y busy. I just look at my calendar and want to cry.
RockNVoll, I had no idea you found a place and were going to be doing a tear-down project. I'd love to hear the details! Maybe if I look in the posts about where to live, I will get some clues, LOL
So our crazy life continues. S is fully immersed in any and all things. She has a choir festival coming up next weekend, and an Irish step dance competition in a couple of weeks. Ask me if she has practiced at all. She just went to a birthday party, and there's a school Christmas party coming up as well. She's doing great at school--apparently I have a math whiz on my hands. God help me when she gets to algebra. Maybe she can teach me quadratic equations! We have her convinced she will grow up to be an engineer.
My work is ridiculously crazy. We are short-staffed and can't hire anyone right now, so everyone is overextended and cranky. And i'm working with some distinctly non-team players, so that's making it extra special I do have an interview for a new remote gig next week, they're asking for a writing assignment and a presentation. Hard core! But I hear the work-life balance is amazing, so I can work with that At least a half dozen of people from my current company have left to go there, so I'll know a few people!
J is good, he actually likes his job. Of course, all hopes are hanging on some clinical trials, and if they tank he may be looking for a new job next year. Fortunately he's good at that. He's still doing his medieval events, another one is coming up this weekend. I am not going, ha ha
The parents and MIL are coming for Thanksgiving. It will be nice to have them all here, even for a few days. S will be beside herself. I will enjoy someone else doing pickup and dropoff on the days she's at school.
Next year's schedule is looming and it's exhausting. My parents celebrate 50 years of marriage January 6, so I'm doing a speed run to CA to help them celebrate. I'm leaving S and J at home, and my mom is unhappy that S won't be there. I can't subject my kid to 2 cross-country flights in one weekend. She gets terrible jet lag and will be a mess for a week. J said he'll put his foot down with my mom if she keeps making noises about it. My MIL is turning 70 next year and has decided to take us to WDW over April break. I was initially not terribly thrilled about dragging J, S, and my semi-mobile MIL all over the Happiest Place on Earth, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea. And she's paying for half of it, woot! June we're getting all of my side of the family to celebrate my parents' anniversary and some milestone birthdays. The cousins are so great together, it will be nice to give them a week of togetherness. And J has never been to my parents' place on the coast, so it will be a new adventure for him.
I had a birthday yesterday, and it was nice. I didn't do much on the actual day, but the weekend was spent with a massage, 2 nice dinners, and some family time. A co-worker sent me scratch tickets in the mail, and I won $21 on them! Woo hoo!
Happy Birthday, drloretta! Your schedule sounds insane! Enjoy your upcoming travels.
I'd LOVE to see/hear more about your home building process, RockNVoll!
Sounds like you've been busy, liveintheville. Have fun this weekend!
Calvin turned one on Saturday, and his party was a bit of a disaster. He was coming off a week of fevers/ear infections, and while feeling better he was fussy and overwhelmed. I spent most of the party alone in his bedroom snuggling and singing to him while everyone else celebrated. I'm a little depressed about it. Selfishly I feel like it was as much a party for me (I survived year 1!) as it was for him and we were both pretty miserable.
Ok, pity party over. Other than that things are going well. DS is back to his sunny self and is a lot of fun. I ran my 2nd marathon a few weeks ago and I'm supposed to run a half this weekend but our childcare fell through so I'm not sure it will happen (both DH and I are signed up). I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving since we're staying local.

scm1011 I’m so sorry about the party. I️ Get the feeling that it’s your party. I️ bought a ridiculousy expensive cake for L’s first birthday. Being locked away sucks. Glad that C is back to his normal self.
scm1011, sorry to hear about the party. I showed H the adorable picture of your grumpy bear on his birthday. H started talking about S's first birthday, which he spent in our bathroom puking So I feel ya.

liveintheville, if you guys have some extra time in Springfield, the Dr. Seuess museum is open and my friends/family who have gone enjoyed it.
drloretta, happy belated birthday! I was just trying to think back to what we did for my birthday, and realized Ben had just had surgery 3 days before and I was sick as a dog. I think we ordered pizza, and then I forgot about it. I don't even think there was cake. Adult birthdays are clearly not a big deal in our house anymore, either.
scm1011, I'm sorry the party didn't go as planned, but I hope you and K can go out for a nice dinner to celebrate or something because you're totally right, the first birthday is as much about you surviving as them. Glad he's feeling better.
RockNVoll, good luck with the build! Did you guys end up back west of the city? Glad you're able to pick up a little work to help stay busy.
Today is my last day of work until the 27th, and 4 pm cannot get here soon enough. Our office has had a lot of turnover in the last couple of months (including my boss, whom I and everyone else really liked), and people are cranky and pissy and mansplainy, and it's all just pretty exhausting. I literally spent 20 minutes last night unloading on my husband everything that pissed me off here during the day, so it will be good to get a break and recharge. We have no real plans, except hosting Thanksgiving (just my mom, MIL, and FIL, so nothing too terribly taxing), but Ben has recently decided naps are for chumps, so I think my husband and I are going to have to take shifts over the course of the week so we can both get a break. I may even try to sneak in a massage.
