The JW House. It's our local version of the Ronald McDonald house. We're lucky enough to live pretty close to our hospital, but we always donate because families should be close by when their loved ones are in the hospital.
The American Cancer Society. Cancer's hit our family pretty hard and I used to be really involved in ACS events. I really like that ACS donations help a lot of cancers in a lot of ways, instead of just one thing.
My two causes are the local childrens hospital (where DS1 had his open heart surgery) and Planned Parenthood (I had to have a later-term abortion for medical reasons - worst time of my life and they were so caring and professional).
Local food bank. They had a video probably seven years ago when I was there volunteering that showed kids and families crying when they received food for the holidays.
Also, one of the angels DD adopted through NJHS asked for snacks for school.
I feel like it would be St. Jude. Helping children and their families fight cancer is a wonderful cause. And Hospice. My dad was in Hospice for a few days and if there are angels on earth, these people are it. Out of his very long sickness, these were the kindest, most caring people. Can't imagine what kind of person it takes to work there.

I just set up my federal campaign contributions and split it between 6 different places. The biggest portion went to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer center in Seattle, followed by the Crohns and Colitis foundation. Then smaller portions went a suicide prevention foundation, a local Planned Parenthood, Arthtitis Foundation and the National FFA organization.
I feel like there are so many really worthy causes, so I split my money, and I try to keep it local - my grocery store is doing a feed the hungry thing, so I put $$ towards that, work is sponsoring homeless kids to get them hats/mittens and small presents so I'm doing that, and I have a teacher friend who works in an underfunded school district so I sent her some things for her classroom (she's not local, except in the sense that I've known her a long time).
I has just seen about all the starving children in Yemen, although it seems to be more that the Saudi's have physically blocked aid than a money issue. DS did volunteer with the Scouts at an organization that combats childhood hunger. I guess I would say that is my cause for now. He did Feed My Starving Children, but any organization in this area is helpful.
My two causes are the local childrens hospital (where DS1 had his open heart surgery) and Planned Parenthood (I had to have a later-term abortion for medical reasons - worst time of my life and they were so caring and professional).
These as well. DS had fetal surgery and heart surgery.
I don't personally have experience with PP except to get birth control, but they seem to fight for those medical issues with mom or baby that debaters and lawmakers forget or push aside.
Our local children's hospital. When DD has her mystery illness they were so fabulous. Also the hospital where DS was born and spent quite a while in the NICU for being a preemie.
Planned Parenthood, Everytown for Gun Safety (Moms Demand) and a local workforce development nonprofit that teaches homeless and low income young adults computer skills they can use to get decent paying jobs (coding, web design, database admin, etc)
If I could get everyone to do one thing, it would be listen. Actually focus on what another person is saying and attempt to understand it.
If I could only pick one place, it would be Planned Parenthood.
But if I have a second choice, it would be to help families struggling with homelessness. My BFF knows a family that just has had more than their share of terrible luck. The mom has a physical disability and can’t work. The dad works as a mover, but it’s a slow time of year. Both kids are special needs, one with schizophrenia and the other on the autism spectrum with other psychiatric diagnoses that I don’t have the details of. They moved here to take care of the woman’s mom, who is also mentally ill. But the mom won’t stay on her meds, became very abusive toward the kids, and then started calling CPS claiming the parents were abusing her and the kids. CPS came in and said they have to get the kids away from the grandmother. So they are staying in an extended stay motel. Trying to get them assistance is maddening. There are waiting lists everywhere. If the woman was divorced, I could get her help. But an intact, two-parent family? There’s a big crack in our safety net.

The Environmental Defense Fund is our big one. We only have one earth, etc. They’re very effective and I always get a warm rush of “this was a good choice” when I get the “what we have done with your money” email.
Our local food bank and/or diaper bank. Or your local food and/or diaper bank.
Lung cancer research foundation My mom died of lung cancer and my grandmother was diagnosed a few years ago. I donate every year since my mom was diagnosed. I wouldn't wish it on anyone and it is horrible watching someone you love suffering from it.
