Still in the middle of Ghostland. It's due on the 1st so I need to finish, but I have only about 85 pages so I should be ok.
QOTW: Our 8 month old kitten, Samhain, is on a special diet and doesn't get people food. Yesterday while I was trying to take the meat off the bone in order to put the leftovers in the fridge, she kept trying to get into my lap and would poke her head up, whack-a-mole style, at the crook of my elbow. DH had to remove her twice! Nothing beats the allure of a tasty, tasty bird.
I’m still reading Written In My Own Heart’s Blood, about 60% done. I’m listening to Celeste Ng’s Everything I Never Told You and kind of reading Murder In Plain Sight on the side. Hopefully I finish one or more of them by the end of the month.
My two boys (8 and 5) convinced my cousins (21 and 24) to play board games with them yesterday. This was the first time in a long time in a long time that my cousins hadn’t been glued to their screens or itching to go do something else, that plus the silly smack talking of my 5yo during Jr monopoly made us all smile.

I finished Tell Me Three Things and liked it a lot! I'm reading The Hours Count and enjoying it. I've had three sick kids over the course of the past week so am getting extra reading since they want me to sit with them.
We had friends over and they brought a game called Don't Pass the Gas. My nearly 5 yo started bawling when she lost and the adults laughed extremely loud at the sound. I insisted there must be more to the game than pushing the button until it toots basically...I don't recommend that game!
I finished Dirty Magic (Prospero's War #1), and then I plowed through Saga, Volumes 1, 2, and 3 (it's a graphic novel that is bizarre as hell, rather violent, and sexually explicit, with a great story). There are still volumes 4-8 to read, but Hoopla doesn't seem to have the 8th volume yet (I think it maybe just came out this month).
I'm also currently reading Into the Water, which so far I'm liking better than Girl on the Train, but there are too many damn POV characters.
QOTW: I'm not sure this is funny or interesting, but it's an anecdote to say to believe people when they tell you things. My sister yesterday was hassling me via text and email about Christmas present ideas for me and my H. My H hates presents, so I suggested she buy him some of his favorite cheesy popcorn, but she was like, "We can't just buy him that! That's not a real present!" Which is dumb, because he'd actually be significantly happier to get one $5 bag of cheese popcorn than to get $35 worth of whatever random crap she's going to buy him instead, and he'll enjoy eating the popcorn whereas the random shit I know he's just going to donate as soon as we get home.
I finished Little Fires Everywhere yesterday. It is the first book I have read by Celeste Ng. I really liked it so I’m adding Everything I Never Told You to my list.
I’m about to start A Court of Wings and Ruin today. I’m looking forward to some extra reading time today.

I finished Queen of Shadows finally! I started To the Nines. It is so corny!
I made a pretty funny joke yesterday. DS was playing a hunting game with you guys and was trying go get my brother to play with him. DS kept handing him guns and DD kept taking them away and throwing them on the floor. DS: Uncle M, come hunt with me! UM: I can't DD keeps taking my guns away. Me: We should start calling her Obama
😂😂😂
My family is mostly conservative and I'm the outlier liberal but everyone got a laugh out of that.
I finished The Case Against Sugar by Gary Taubes this week. The message of course is that sugar is horrible and going to kill us all, but nothing could really be quantified via long term studies because of confounding factors and that most people won't go without it long enough to produce meaningful long term results. He does a good job of recounting the history and introduction of sugar to societies and details various techniques of the sugar industry to shift the blame. I didn't actually like the book, but felt like I needed to read it, if that makes sense.
I'm almost done with Elon Musk - Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. It is very well written and I'm totally fascinated by what Musk is doing to change the world. I highly recommend it if anyone is looking for a good biography.
I've been busy preparing for Thanksgiving so not too much reading got done this week
Read: Into the Water by Paula Hawkins - mystery/thriller; 3 stars; saving my review for book club discussion on Wednesday! A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare - historical romance; 3.5 stars; surprisingly good for a first book in a series (I've read the last three in the series, now working my way through the earlier ones)
Currently Reading: Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne - classic; let's see if an audiobook will make a classic book more interesting! First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - contemporary romance; just started and so far so good Fury of a Phoenix by Shannon Mayer - PNR/UF; I'm about half way into it and I'm going to finish it but I won't much like doing it
QOTW: I convinced my son that my sister doing a pretend gobble-gobble noise on the phone was in fact a turkey that her family had found alive wandering around in their backyard LOL!

I'm reading The Garden Intrigue. I had extra reading time, but spent it reading some Kindle Freebies. I needed the light fluff.
QOTW: My Thanksgiving celebration isn't until Sunday, but we were getting all the groceries on Thanksgiving night and I mentioned to the check-out lady that it wasn't very crowded for a holiday. And she asked me "Here's what I've always wondered: Who thought it was a good idea to schedule a huge gift holiday a month before Christmas? I have never understood why the Americans do that!" It led to a discussion of what Thanksgiving is and why it's not the same as Christmas and how it has nothing to do with Christmas. It's really interesting how things get misinterpreted and misunderstood outside their native areas. When I explained it's when it is because it's a harvest festival, she said, well wouldn't that mean it would be in March or April (the harvest period here)? I really had to work not to laugh then, but I did have a hearty chuckle when I related the story to my mother & brother.
I'm reading Idaho by Emily Ruskovich, 60% of the way through the book. I wish I would have read this book earlier. Between my busy schedule and all the bouncing around in the story line/characters, I am lost. I'm hoping that if I keep reading it will all get pulled together and suddenly make sense.
QOTW: It was pretty quiet on Thanksgiving. We discussed going swimming after dinner since it was so hot, but we napped and watched movies instead.

I made a lot of progress on "The Woman in Cabin 10". Only 60 pages to go so I have to finish this week. I'll still be 3 books behind for the year but that's ok.
I've read Wonder last year I think and I just saw the movie last weekend - oh man, I cried! It's sooooo good.
My mom and I are going to see the movie this week. I’m trying to decide if DD is old enough to go, too. I know I need to bring lots of Kleenex!!
I took my son who is 6 (granted a very mature 6) and he liked the movie though he had a LOT of questions. But at the end I asked him some questions and he definitely got the moral of the story and understood most of it. But there is some bullying and a fist fight and a kiss in the movie.
