Friends thought I was crazy, but I just love seeing DS stuff his face. It brings me great joy. LOL
This is me, lol! I'm turning into the long line of Italian mothers and grandmothers before me...
Same! I've loved introducing new foods, and I'm constantly surprised by the things he gravitates toward. Like the kid will throw down a pound of black beans if I let him. He shovels them in his mouth like its going to be his last meal. It makes me laugh.

scm1011, @daylily, It is seriously the best. I always need to remind myself not to congratulate or push foods because I want him to learn to just eat when he's hungry, but damn if it's not great seeing him punish foods. Some nights he eats more than I do! It's hilarious.
Last night S ate an entire serving (one tablespoon, ha!) of baby oatmeal I made him--his first time! The last few nights we have tried it, he would tolerate a few bites, but last night he really seemed to love it. Made me so happy We are going to start introducing new foods every few days, mostly pureed right now because he is so young (4 months), but some "solids" such as mushed banana and avocados rather than pureed as well. I am loving it!
In unrelated news, I got my period back today. It's weird to have it again.

Jersey/PA/DE ladies- did anyone feel the earthquake? I was in E's room trying to get her to settle for a nap (hahaha) and the whole house shook. Such a weird feeling!
I feel like I'm probably in the minority with this one, but now that A is a toddler with extremely good language comprehension, I do make her try everything on offer. Even if it means she just licks the stuff she's unsure of. She doesn't have to eat it, but she does have to try it. I praise her for trying things, especially when she doesn't want to.
Obviously I did not do this when she was still figuring out solids or before she could understand what it meant to try a food vs eating it.

Nope, so weird! It was pretty far from the fault line, too.

Not this time but when the last one hit the area I was at work and when I told people I felt something they thought I was nuts until it was reported it was an earthquake lol
Pregnancy related. I'm getting big enough now that I'm starting to feel achy in my joints. I'm still running and weight lifting, and that helps, but increasingly I find myself thinking about how nice it might be to stretch out and swim in a pool a couple days a week.
But. I'm terrified of putting on a swimsuit. And I've never done lap swimming anywhere and I find it terribly intimidating.
Do it. I was 7 and 8 no the pregnant in June and July and did it. My family was shocked when I came out wearing my suit. I was like I'm not and pregnant....im swimming dudes!
We did BLW and basically gave the baby matchstick shaped versions of what we were eating or whatever was handy in the fridge. Puréed baby food, especially meat, grossed me out and I wasn't big on the idea of spoon feeding which seemed like a lot of work. I never spoon fed DD at all but I had to a bit with DS for the first couple of weeks because he was just SO hungry and got frustrated if he didn't get enough in his belly. So I'd spoon feed him yogurt and then let him eat finger foods. For meat he started by gnawing at strips of whatever meat we were eating and once he got a bit of dexterity I gave him ground meat crumbles.
dellabear, did your DD eat yogurt herself from the get go? DS (12 months) doesn't have the hang of a spoon yet (admittedly I haven't been working with him on it, I was kind of hoping daycare would lol). I feel like if I give hm a bowl of yogurt he's just going to throw it or smash his hands in it.
spearmintleaf, reusable pouch is a good idea, thanks. DS is also pretty intent on feeding himself, yogurt is the only exception. We also offer seasoned food, mostly because I like spicy food and he general eats what we eat. I grew up on a very very limited and bland diet and it took me well into my 20s to learn to eat like a normal person. I'm very cognizant of exposing DS to a variety of food.

oh god, swimming was life changing for me. I had to stop running around 20 weeks but continued to lift. However, in place of running, I swam a mile two days a week. It was incredible.
I will admit I was wicked intimidated at first, especially because the pool I used was always also being used by incredibly fit women double my age swimming competitively. But I just got in and did my slow laps and enjoyed being in the water. And the women were all encouraging. I got a maternity suit around 30 weeks but prior to that I just managed with a regular speedo.
By the end of pregnancy (july) I was wearing a two piece only but then I was swimming in my friends pool, not a big public competitive lap pool.

dude, swimming was the best at the end of pregnancy! I wore a maternity tankini, so my belly was covered. But I loved swimming, it was the only time I felt light and my joints didn't hurt. Do it!
You can usually observe and figure out a slow lane. But I think it's usually one of the outside lanes. I always tried to find an empty lane. As far as etiquette, just swim to the right of the lane, and when you make your turn, stay on the right, so everyone moves in a circle.
shauni27 , King26 , pooh8402 , this is good encouragement, thank you! I would need to buy a maternity suit, womp. And I...uh...can't see my lady bits so I'm not sure what the grooming sitch is down there but that can't be good. LOL. Stage fright aside though it would really be good. I work for a town, and I think I could get a really cheap pool pass at their rec center and there is open swim every weeknight.
So what should I know about lap swimming? Is there a slow lane? How do I stay out of the way of people who are good at it? Are there rookie things I shouldn't do?
I would ask at your pool! Tell them you are new to lap swimming and want to make sure you follow proper etiquette. At my aquatic center there wasn't a slow lane, but I would go early enough in the morning that I could use the "warm water pool" (used for free swim normally) to myself because there was no one there. I simply hated lane sharing unless it was with a super old person because I was not really swimming for speed like most of the others in the pool.
I got my maternity suit at Old Navy. I didn't want to spend a lot.

I bought thick Greek yogurt and started by spreading it on toast spears and eventually I would load up the spoon but let her eat it on her own. Toast spears were my friend, I used them as a vehicle for all kinds of things...mashed avocado, peanut butter, hummus...
FWIW DS is just now really getting the hang of spoons and forks at 18 mos, and I think is 100% daycare.
I love reading all of these happy updates. And even the not so happy ones, I hope everyone's kids are staying illness free these days.
Just reading the baby puree posts makes me tired... lol. I was super into making my (now 2.5 years old) son's food when he was a baby. Now I'm pregnant and it's like I've already forgotten baby things. I will probably just buy purees from the store for baby 2 lol. Poor kid is already getting the shaft.

I totally bought all of E's purees from the store. And he is my first. No judgement here!
I had hoped that by giving him a large variety of tastes from the store bought purees (because I don't cook much), that it would make him less picky, but NOPE.

The variety thought makes sense to me! But ugh toddlers and their pickiness. My son drives me crazy.
