Yesterday while I was at work, DH texted a pic of DS, age 3, asleep on the couch. I immediately texted back “Is he sick?” The kid gave up naps before his second birthday. Noooo. Just tired. Woke up from nap puking with 103 temp. DH gave Tylenol. It seemed to help. But lots of puking last night.
This morning I had to get on a God damned flight to Seattle. DS still sick. Told DH to call the doc if he didn’t perk up within a couple of hours. I texted him on the flight. Fever going up and down. “Are you taking him to the doc?” No. So I just texted to check in. DH is on the way to the ER with DS, whose fever is back up and is puking with a vengeance.
In my limited experience with my own, the husbands have a very laid back attitude to sickness. It has to be level 10 to get them to move. Level 9.25, they'll be fine, no reason to stress out. I can't count how many times that I have taken one to the doctor, and Dh was all, you're being crazy, they are fine, only to come out with hand foot and mouth, strep, double ear infection, and he's all like woops. Rinse and repeat for the next time.

Yup. I was the one that took DS to the hospital when H wouldn't stop working (on a Sunday). He had bronchiolitis and had to stay 3 nights/4 days. Same with strep and other things. H also totally missed DS's hernia. Basically if I die the kids better not get sick again because he won't realize it's a problem.
Aw I'm sorry. Your DS will be on the mend soon. And I agree - H's tend to just hang out until Armageddon when it comes to sickness and injury.
DD1 got a mosquito bite in the corner of her eye. She reacts severely to mosquito bites, so I asked DH to keep an eye on it until I got home from work. It's fine, he said. Looks a little puffy, but ok. I got home and her eye was swollen completely shut. COMPLETELY. he was like, "what?" Cellulitis around her eye, hours away from being in it. "What? It's a little puffy."
I'm sorry - poor you and DS. I hope he feels better soon! And I'm glad you are able to go home early - no one can argue with you leaving for a kid in the hospital.

Aw, poor thing. It's tough to be away when your babies are sick. Hope he gets better quickly!
Forgot to add - My DH is actually the opposite. The kids cough once and he's ready to haul them to the doctor. I have to constantly tell him to just give it some time.

Sigh. Mine runs counter...H wants to run to the doctor for meds for every sniffle DS gets. It's gotten a bit better over the years as we've gotten more experience, but H is always super anxious with any new to us symptom.
mommyatty, I'm sorry your little is sick while you're away; hope he's better quick.
DS survived the night. So that’s good. DH said he drank a ton of water this morning. Also good.
DH normally runs to the doc pretty quickly. MIL told me last night that he couldn’t get through to our ped’s office and was pretty undone by that. So I’m less irritated with him now.
My boss was cool with me changing flights/cancelling a leg of my journey, so I’m heading home this morning. The entire family was relieved.

mommyatty, sorry to hear about your DS. I hope he's feeling better soon and I'm glad you were able to cut your trip short so you can get home to be with him.

I'm so sorry this happened while you were gone. I'm glad you're able to get home early though! This is where I'm thankful DH is a paramedic and is pretty in tune with sickness and if it's a big deal or not.
The kids always get sick right as I have to travel for work - it’s sooooo stressful. We use the back up care when I travel because DH freaks out. It helps him to know the kids are with an RN. I’m glad you will make it back early.
