Two of P's friends are coming over for HH on Friday. I've never met them and have been told they are "foodies". I said I'd make some "hearty appetizers" and she is bringing dessert.
I am definitely making a mushroom and pancetta crostata and a cheese board but the remainder of the menu is up in the air. I'm going to do at least 1 dip, either a hummus or white bean dip with tomato and olive topping. I'm toying with bruschetta, but that would mean I'd be in the kitchen for a few minutes and if I do that then I'm not doing the white bean dip as I don't want to do two tomato based dishes.
So, would you rather have brushetta and hummus? Or white bean dip and something else, like bacon wrapped cheese jalapenos? Also, I feel like I need at least one meat based appetizer. Anyone have any good recipes?
Add a baked brie to your cheeseboard - it's easy and always looks pretty. Add something seasonal like apple butter or a fig jam to the cheese before you seal it up in the pastry crust.
I just came back in here to post that I've been thinking about apps, and now I'd kill for some prosciutto-wrapped asparagus. Please make them so I can live vicariously though you!

P. would probably gag and throw up on it! He hates asparagus; what a weirdo!

I asked P about meat apps last night and he shot them all down, which is fine as I none sounded good to me either. I think I'll do an elaborate cheese board with a couple kinds of meat and some homemade bacon jam.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
I was actually giving him a hard time once about how picky he is about vegetables until he reminded me that I'm uber picky about meat and fish. It's amazing we don't starve
If he’s that picky about the menu, I’d tell him to find recipes and cook them. The other thing I’d say that worked for us for thanksgiving is that I cooked what I wanted and told him to make the dishes that he wanted and he did so we had a plethora of options that we both enjoyed at the table.

doglove, I didn't want the suggestions either. I was going to make something if it sounded good to him but if it didn't then I'm not going to bother. I have no idea what these people eat and I don't want leftovers of something that neither P nor I will eat.

Sounds like you've got it under control. I was going to say that bacon-wrapped dates (stuff with goat cheese or an almond) are awesome, too. I will say that olives are pretty polarizing, though...I won't touch them, and I'm not really a picky eater....

I was thinking of the dates, too. I could do almonds so it isn't cheesy. But I do want to try and make the bacon jam because LEFTOVERS. Lol. The nice thing about the dip is that the olives and tomato mixture sits on top. P hates raw tomatoes so he just pushes them off and eats the dip with the olives.

Bacon jam sounds AMAZING!
And olive brine contaminates anything within a 6" radius of it, but I may be a little extreme in my position on that.
