I read Life After Life this week by Kate Atkinson (I know, I'm a few years late to the party lol.) I really enjoyed it but have a question about it if anyone here read it and remembers it at all.
I just started "Faithful" by Alice Hoffman and so far I like it (kind of book where I sat down to read the first few pages and read the first 50, lol), but it's emotionally hard. I have already cried once at it.
I don't really read Christmas books. Maybe I should try a festive one to get in the spirit.
I am reading Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I'm only about 20% of the way into the book.
QOTW: I don't usually get around to reading Christmas books. It's a busy time of year and by the time I get into the mood for a Christmas book the library has a long wait on them. However, this year I hope to read a few. I should be getting Louise Penny's latest book from the library soon. Her books are fun to read this time of year. Also, I bought myself The Deal of a Lifetime by Fredrik Backman for St. Nicholas Day. I'm hoping they help put me in the Christmas spirit. I'm a Midwest transplant to SoCal so it doesn't feel like the holidays - no snow/too warm.

I'm still plugging away at "Becoming Nicole", but I was thinking about trying to download Firefly Lane after several recommendations. I loved the Nightengale.
QOTW: I usually don't get into Christmas books, although I loved them as a kid. I always say I'll re-read (for a 3rd time) A Walk to Remember in December because it has a bit of a Christmas feel, but I'm 2.5 behind for my yearly goal so we'll see.

I am currently reading The Baker's Secret by Stephen Kiernan. It's really good and I have about 100 pages left.
I'm also reading Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Only about 30 pages left in that. It's a quick, interesting read.
I don't have anything going on audio right not but Red Rising just became available on overdrive this morning so I'll start listening to that in the next day or so.
QOTW: I don't really read Christmas/holiday books but I will watch a lot of movies.
I read Life After Life this week by Kate Atkinson (I know, I'm a few years late to the party lol.) I really enjoyed it but have a question about it if anyone here read it and remembers it at all.
I just finished My Sister's Grave (Tracy Crosswhite, #1) by Dugoni, Robert, and I'm listening to The Likeness by Tana French. Both are murder mysteries and very good.
I don't normally read a holiday book, but I do love the Christmas Hallmark movies!

I finished To the Nines (Stephanie Plum #9). Just as corny and ridiculous as the others but a quick read.
I'm currently reading Empire of Storms. Not super far into it yet.
QOTW: I am not together enough to read seasonal books so if I do happen to read a Christmas book in December it's coincidence.
But I do wrap up all of the kid's Christmas books and they pick one each night to read. I have some classics in there like The Grinch, Polar Express and The Night Before Christmas. I'll probably do this just for myself after the kids are moved out.
I finished A Twist in Time, the 2nd in the series. I enjoyed it and appreciate the struggle of the main character with living in the wrong era.
I started Everything I Never Told You, so far I find it to be beautifully written, but sad.
QOTW: My old book club used to collectively choose a Holiday book. Unfortunately, none were very good. Last year I read a Nook freebie and it was pretty bad! I have read Jan Karon's Mitford series and I did enjoy Shepherds Abiding as part of it. I have also read the Christmas books written my Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol and I have enjoyed them.
We got rid of cable in January, there is very little that I miss, but not have the Christmas movies from Hallmark and Lifetime makes me sad.
I am reading The 12 Days of Dash and Lily and it’s a Christmas read...it’s ok.
Someone mentioned kids though and I follow Read Aloud Revival. She gives monthly recommendations so I always get a bunch from our library. We recently read An Orange for Frankie and I loved it!!! Highly recommend!
Read: First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - contemporary romance; 2.5 stars; I've loved her other books but this one was not nearly as good and even practically re-used a old character and just gave them a new name. Pass. Fury of a Phoenix by Shannon Mayer - PNR/UF; 3 stars; this book was too emotionally flat to be interesting, no matter how much action it had Lure of Oblivion by Suzanne Wright - PNR/UF; 3 stars; definitely not her best book, but not terrible either.
Did Not Finish Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne - classic; 2 stars; I journeyed to the center of this book (the 50% mark) and had to quit. I was SOOOOO bored. It was all 'rocks, need water, walking, find water, more rocks'. No thank you.
Currently Reading: My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier - classic?/mystery?/fiction; I am obsessed with this book so far!!
QOTW: I have yet to read a Christmas/Holiday themed book around the holidays but I know it's a thing other people try to do so I thought I would ask for suggestions and maybe read one this year
I started and finished Wonder this week and super loved it. Pretty sure we will take DD to see the movie this weekend then read the book with her.
I also finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and really enjoyed that, too. I'm not sure what book is next. Perhaps Dreams of Joy. I've had it sitting around for awhile and one of my goals is to read more paper books.
QOTW: Nope, no Christmas themed books. I should start reading them....I loved them as a kid. My favorite was The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
I'm reading Sleeping Beauties by Owen King and Stephen King. So far so good, but I'm not all that far into it yet. I did finally finish Ghostland and Nasty Women this week, so that was a good feeling of completion.
QOTW: No Christmas books for me. I can't think of a single one that doesn't strike me as hokey other than A Christmas Carol. I do love the Christmas scenes in the Harry Potter books, though.
I'm reading The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw. It was a Kindle Daily Deal last week. It's interesting. I don't have an awful lot of comments so far at 20%, but there's been (un)surprisingly a lot of discussions about lack of personal responsibility in subsequent generations. I'm torn because I want to cut some slack, because damn, they went through SO FUCKING MUCH, but on the flip side I'm a little indignant. I kind of want to be all "YOU DON'T KNOW MY LYFE". And of course we don't know what it's like to go through a World War.
I'm doing a relisten of The Raven Boys. I do love it so much.
QOTW: I don't really do Christmas books. Not by design, it just doesn't occur to me. Though I came across a list of Christmas romance books one time and was seriously blown away by how many there were.
I read my way through all of the rest of the available Saga graphic novels (Volumes 4-7). I thought volume 8 was already out and Hoopla just didn't have it yet, but apparently the Goodreads reviews are pre-release reviews, and it actually doesn't come out until December 27th. The last issue was kind of heartbreaking, and it's killing me that I'm having to wait on more of the story.
I also finished Into the Water this afternoon. See the book club thread for my positive comparison when set next to The Girl on the Train, but also my rant on how there are too many POV characters.
Next up is the audiobook version of My Grandmother Asked me to Tell You She's Sorry, followed by The Yiddish Policeman's Union.
QOTW: I never intentionally set out to read holiday stories. Although this is the time of year that Amazon sometimes has free Christmas stories set in Amish country, and I will occasionally pick them up.
I finished Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. I thought it was excellent and have already bought a copy to give my BIL for Christmas, convinced another friend to buy it, encouraged my aunt to pick it for her book club, ordered multiple copies of a new kid's book called Elon Musk: This Book is About Rockets, and spent a good 45 minutes earlier this week talking Teslas and solar panels with one of my random gym friends. Haha.
I also read You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Sherman Alexie, a memoir/way to grieve the complicated relationship he had with his late mother. It was decent; he's gifted and has quite a few stories to tell.
I can't think of any holiday related books I've read... I'm trying to map out my last few for the year and don't think I'll read one this season.
Behind Her Eyes- terrible For one the book used the word retard. British or not, someone should have caught that. Second the plot was so weird and poorly written. I feel like the author left clues as to the twist, but they were lost in the poor train of thought and lack of timeline. I mean really it seemed to all happen within a few weeks and was just not believable.
Her Every Fear- good, so much better than The Kind Worth Killing which I did not understand the love for.
Next up is I See You.
QOTW-no I usually just read what’s in the queue between the 3 libraries I use.
I finished Written in My Own Hearts Blood a few days ago and just finished the audio book of Everything I Never Told you by Celeste Ng. I’m about 70% through Murder In plainSight. No idea what I’m reading this weekend.

I've been tearing through Lauren Willig's The Garden Intrigue. I had plenty of time to read Wednesday, Thursday & Friday nights as I was working the sign in table at the Dance School's rehearsals. But during the day I was flat out getting prepped for the rehearsals so I felt like I didn't really get a lot of reading done.
QOTW: I don't really tailor my reading to the seasons, though I will be taking Murder & Mistletoe (an Murder Most Unladylike mystery) with me on my flight on Christmas Day so I can give it to my cousin when I finish it. I read mostly mystery series and there are many of those set around Christmas, but I cannot remember any offhand.
I finished A Court of Wings and Ruin early this week. It was just what I was looking for - something to tear through.
I just started reading They Both Die at the End. It's a YA book. It's good so far.
I don't read anything seasonal, but I like the idea. My H started reading A Christmas Carol each year with our DD and sometimes I listen in on that. I would probably like to read a holiday romance - the book equivalent of a Hallmark Christmas Movie.
