I've been missing the brags thread and meant to start one yesterday but I have been absolutely slammed at work and have not had time. Anyone have anything?
Mine is that DD is starting to respond to CBT and ERP that we are doing at home mostly. (She has therapy but it isn't really CBT.) Sunday was her piano and voice recital for the holidays, and she refused to do the voice song. I think piano is easier because her back is mostly turned to the audience and she can see something other than them. At the end the teacher gave her and the other refuser one more chance and since she was then next to us, she accepted our encouragement and went back up and sang. She was sooooo nervous she forgot the words most of the song (like she was one line off most of the song) and her little voice cracked, but she did it!
In the car after, I asked how it felt when Mr. Bossy told her not to sing and she listened. She said it felt bad and scary. I asked how it felt when she told Mr. Bossy to leave her alone and sang anyway and she said it made her feel powerful and strong, and it made Mr. Bossy seem smaller and less powerful.
Then yesterday we were watching tv and a character gave in to his Mr. Bossy and she recognized that he had a Mr. Bossy in his brain and told him he should tell it to go away.
On the other hand the other day she was scared of a monster in her closet and wanted me to open the door. I told her that is just her anxiety. She said, "No, Mr. Bossy says YOU should NOT open the door, and we should always do the opposite of what Mr. Bossy wants!" LMAO she is a clever one. (She ended up opening the door herself which is a halfway point I suppose.)
I feel like everytime I take DS to a different doctor they uncover more wrong with him. So it was pretty exciting to take him to the foot doctor and have him say oh yeah his feet are kind of flat- here are some non custom orthotics and send me on the way. Oh, we do have to do calf stretches with him, but I just added that to his PT exercises. Foot doctor seemed to think his toe walking and slapping of his feet will go away with time and with the orthotics and stretching. He isn't concerned about that at all.
OT was cancelled this week, and PT is next week, so I am not sure where we are on our goals, but I am hoping we are getting closer to discharging PT. He can now sit on an exercise ball for quite a long time. Still not sure on the biking since they never do that with him.
Audiology appointment was good. Hearing was stable. There was one weird test, but they thought maybe he was just responding strangely to the test, so we will just re-test in a year. No ear infections!
DS got smart about the Santa thing. I told him to ask Santa for one present and he did. Then he told Santa that Mommy wants some Paw Patrol toy, Daddy wants something else on his list, and so on.
DS has been clocking 12 and 15 hour days the last couple weeks. He's mostly been the Santa photographer and has been taking some unusually good candid shots. I have a niece and nephew who are photographers and they both think he has a very good eye. The railroad has been using his work in their promotional posts and advertising.
DD had her dance recital Monday night. She was nervous beforehand, but was able to talk to me about her concerns. She did really well onstage, with no obvious nerves. We'd practiced the routine leading up, so physically she had it down. Her headband fell off twice, so she stopped to put it on, ah well. Later she asked if we could do a recital every day!
DD1 (4th grade) was nominated by one of her classmates for "class citizen" and she got a nice note from the girl. DD doesn't know who it was, but it's the first time she's gotten a note like that this year. Her two most supportive friends moved away over the summer, so I'm so happy that at least one kid in her class feels that way about her.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much with the anti-anxiety med, but I really think I'm seeing positive results. The psychiatrist noticed that her demeanor seemed happier and less defensive. Fingers crossed that we continue to see improvement!
