Battery powered ride on cars are a big big thing in my neighborhood. DD loves them. DS thinks they're cool.... they kind of scare me, but I was thinking about buying one that has a remote control option to perhaps make it a little safer (does that make it safer)? What say you? Is it stupid or good idea?
This one has great reviews. Also, I'm pretty sure my neighbors have this in green. One morning they were playing outside and drove it up my driveway, into my yard, and pulled out their play push mower out of the back and pretended to mow my lawn...it was probably the cutest thing in the history of things.
We have that tractor, just with the addition of a front loader bucket. DS uses it like a legit tractor. He loves his tractor. Also, surprisingly, he's actually learned how to drive pretty well. Like he knows to reverse or go fast if he gets stuck somewhere, he's good at backing it up into it's "parking" spot, etc. I wouldn't worry about a remote control. Most ride on vehicles come with a speed restrictor option that prevents them from using it in full speed. The low speed is pretty slow until they get the hang of how to not run into things.
My kids have a jeep that we got for free from a neighbor's garage sale. It didn't have a battery so we had to buy one. Anyway, I think we've had it for 5 years and both girls do a really good job driving it now. It does not go fast, and most of the time they drive it around our backyard so it goes even slower. I wouldn't worry about a remote control.
DD has a dodge viper. She does a good job driving it on her own. They really aren't that fast.
Does yours have adjustable speed? I think it was a viper that we've ridden was fast...maybe I'm too sensitive. (looking online it says it goes up to 5mph...is that fast?)

It has 2 speeds and reverse. It's quite slow, I walk faster than it goes. My DH actually wants to modify it to make it go faster He's a gear head though (we have quite a collection of sports cars and motorcycles).
We have the 2 person Barbie dune buggy. The slow setting is really slow. The 5mph setting is not too fast either. My girls can handle it just fine. It's pretty big compared to others, so it'll last them awhile. I'm 5'7" and have crammed myself into the passenger seat. It can't go fast when I'm in it, but it works!
For comparison sake, 5 mph is one mile per 12 minutes. So imagine walking or jogging a 12 minute mile. That’s how fast it goes. It’s not fast, though at first when they are learning it could be.
We have a John deer one my kids love. There is a screw blocking 2nd gear your have to remove with a screwdriver. 1st gear is pretty slow. 2nd gear I could keep up with at a fast walk or very slow jog (so probably not quite 5 mph

We've let DS drive his when we go on family walks around the neighborhood and we had no problems keeping up with him. He actually falls behind usually lol

Thanks all. After all of my research, H walks into Toys r Us and sees the Star Wars Speeder is on sale...so guess what we got? I can't complain too much, it's pretty cool looking.
They will love it! My kids are about the same age as yours. We got them a two seater dune buggy that has two speeds and goes in reverse for Christmas last year. They play with it all the time.
Just be cautious on even very minor slopes - our John Deere tractor rolled, and I would not even call it a slope, really. Maybe 5-10 degrees - nearly flat. It was in our backyard and I was as shocked.
