What are the 5.5yos into these days? Peyton apparently just had some sort of mental growth spurt or something and has outgrown all the toys we keep and rotate downstairs. I’m at a loss and she’s bored. As of right now we’ve just let her up her tablet time until Christmas, hoping she falls in love with a few new things us and grandparents have gotten for her.
Just popped in. A is really into artsy stuff. Mostly coloring. Legos win too. And anything that will piss off her brother
Haha. Logan is such an obnoxious little brother. I’ll regret wishing this on her 10 years from now, but I wish she’d learn to love to retreat to her room. She has her “American girl” doll and all her accessories up there out of Logan’s reach, a doll house, and dress up. If she could handle being alone, she could be brother free and my ears would be argument free. Haha.
DD is also super into art. She likes to draw, paint, play with play-doh. It's hard to buy for her because most of her stuff is unused. Some ideas - games that include art, like pictionary Jr. or a charades game. Her art teacher at school recommended a tote bag with a sketchbook and colored pencils. Her brother got her a Frozen tracing projector: blebby.com/products/disney-frozen-tracing-projector
She also has a tablet...the brand is escaping me right now. But there are some art games for that and she really likes them too. Leap Pad! That's what it is.

Of the non electronic toys, W really likes lego/building toys, board games (monopoly Jr, pop up), puzzles and card games like Uno. He's also perfectly happy tossing a balloon around the house. Not surprising since most of these require parental participation. He occasionally plays with his kitchen, imaginext and hot wheels garage, but I'm ready for them to go due to lack of use v. space used.

As much as I love board games, I was hoping to get some independent play in my arsenal, as I’m due with baby #3 in April. Haha. I do like the tracing projecting thing though. I think she’d really enjoy that. She has a kindle fire. I need to sit down and find her some new games on there.

The other thing DD loves is playing school. I can't tell you how much I hate playing school. So I feel you on the board games. DD hasn't been into it, but DS liked tag Jr. That may have been earlier than 5.5 though.

I’m glad you wrote this because A is barely playing with toys lately, and I wondered if it was normal.
She loves the Leappad pen to read her books if you want a quiet independent thing. She also loves art/coloring/sticker books. Puzzles she can do herself. Those are the main stuff she plays with inside. She likes Legos but only if we play them with her. She still likes horses so plays with her ponies if her brother isn’t around but if he is she doesn’t play with any of her toys. She plays with her toys during play dates with other kids but not by herself? So idk lol
I saw a learn to draw book that looked really neat but can’t remember the name. It’s basiclalt step by step instructions to draw animals.

It kinda happened overtime, but kinda suddenly all at the same time. The other night it was like a lightbulb turned on. She was nearly in tears because she was so bored. And I scanned the room to give her ideas on what to play with. And BAM it hit me, everything in the toy box is for toddlers and she’s just past all that. I think I’ll have to look into the leap pad tag pens. I think that’d be fun.

We have so many toddler toys too. I'm not even sure what to buy her. I feel like they're in a weird age stage where they don't have the concentration for some of the other kid toys but are too old for younger kid toys. Kids in her class talk about shopkins, Minecraft, and littlest pet shop a lot. I got her one set of shopkins for Christmas, but they look like something she will lose and forget about or H will eat one lol.
Madison is into drawing, crafts, colouring and reading. She's getting a finger knitting kit for Christmas and kit for colouring with shading with a bunch of colour by number sheets with 3 shades of every colour and new chapter books. She can spend hours colouring or reading in her own.
M is the same way she barely plays with her toys anymore. She likes barbies but plays with them less and less. She likes her American girl dolls and she’s asked for all American girl doll stuff for Christmas but even those she doesn’t play with all that much.

L loves to play board games by himself 😂 he will play 2-3 different characters and roll for each and move each. He will say one is him and one is C, but play it entirely by himself. Cool kid, whatever!
