Mine actually doesn't have a free arm and I have no issue doing tiny little kid sleeves/ribbing, but, that might just be because I don't know any different.

The free arm online is so large I can barely get adult sleeves around it so I never generally use it.
It would come in handy for 30 pairs of pyjama pants though!

My first Huskylock serger didn't have a free arm. This is my 1034D Brother serger. I have two flatbed sewing machines without freearms and three free arms, all dating between 1954 and 1985. I think modern machines have free arms, but old machines didn't necessarily. I sound like a bit of a hoarder, I think.
