We'll be going to my sister's place on Christmas morning to celebrate with my family (she's got the kids so she's claimed Christmas lol). Then Nick and I fly out Dec 28th for Singapore. We'll ring in the New Year there and then head to Phu Quoc Vietnam for 6 nights at a beach resort. We'll have an overnight in Saigon on the way home as well. I'm really looking forward to it and am excited for beach weather! Though the beach bod isn't exactly where I want it to be lol
We have Christmas at our house. My IL's stay over Christmas eve, and BIL and SIL (and now baby nephew!) come over Christmas morning for presents. Then my family joins us for Christmas dinner around 3, which will put our crew at about 25 people. After the kids go to bed we play adult card games and get drunk (everyone who's not driving). It's awesome!
The day after Christmas the 5 of us will head up to NH to ski until New Years, but we'll need to bundle up. The weather next week looks FRIGID up there (high temps below zero on Thursday!)!
elfinia7 and mswax, those both sound like amazing, albeit very different, vacations!
We are staying close to home. MIL comes tomorrow, and is staying until the 3rd. Christmas Eve is going to be exhausting. I'm singing at 9am and 6:30pm, and S is singing at 4. Somewhere in there we'll start the gift opening. Christmas Day is wide open, so it will likely consist of a lot of eating and some alcoholic beverages as evening approaches NYE will once again be me sandwiched between my H and my MIL watching TV. I plan to make margaritas for myself all night.
We need to get S out of the house each day so she won't go stir crazy, so we have a full itinerary of activities, including Disney on Ice, a movie, a visit to all that Jordan's has to offer (S likes the fake skating rink), and a visit to an arcade. J and I are taking a day to go over our 2018 schedule and budget (man we are old), and we're taking a day off to do whatever we want while MIL watches S. We're still trying to figure out our day. He doesn't want to go into the city, we'd prefer to stay indoors, and he's not a big drinker. Hmmm...
S and I are obsessed with The Great British Baking Show, so we printed out some Mary Berry recipes to try. I plan to start those on Saturday.
I'm not looking forward to Christmas. We're still not speaking to SIL so it'll it should be fun spending 3 days in the same house with her. Thankfully we both have the week after off, and we're sending Cal to daycare Weds-Fri while we do our own daytime adventures (parents of the year!). I'm going to go ice skating with friends downtown, probably do a skiing day trip, and who knows what else. I'm excited!
elfinia7, that trip sounds amazing! I've loved seeing all your recent travels
mswax, bundle up! I hope its still enjoyable. Just take frequent hot chocolate breaks!
RockNVoll, that pretty much sounds like my dream Christmas! Have fun!
drloretta, good luck with MIL! DH recently binge watched GBBS. I couldn't get into it, but it appears I'm in the minority there!
RockNVoll - we recently got into GBBO and have been binge watching episodes on netflix. Baking is not my strength at all but I love watching what they make each year. Nick has taken to asking if I need to "proof" something every time I mention cooking lol

We're staying down in NC and I'm actually really happy to be doing basically nothing.
Christmas Eve we are doing an open house and a bunch of friends said they are coming over. We will probably also FaceTime with DH's extended family so they can all see DD. And a bunch of them shipped us gifts so we'll have her open them aka us open them while we are FaceTiming.
Christmas morning we will do gifts and FaceTime with our parents while doing gifts for DD. Christmas evening we are going to a friend's house for dinner.
DH has some time off during the week so we are going to do some house cleaning, organizing, etc.
We are coming back up to see family in January and it's going to be so much better than running around like crazy people for the holidays.

We have the lowest key holidays. My ILs were supposed to come over Christmas day for lunch for a bit, but the weather looks shitty so they may come later in the week. We've got a boatload of appetizers to have for lunch tomorrow, and a prime rib to make for dinner, so we're good either way. My family is coming on Saturday for our Christmas celebration, so it'll be fun watching Ben and my nephew hang out. I'm driving my mom back to western MA that afternoon so a)she doesn't have to drive back alone and b) I can go to a fundraiser in memory of my BFF's husband who passed away earlier this year. NYE we'll probably make margaritas and quesadillas and pass out by 10 pm. I'm off til the 3rd, so I may try to go to a movie (first one since the day I went into labor with Ben 2 1/2 years ago!), but I'm also lazy and it looks cold as hell this week, so we'll see.
Happy holidays to all of you, and godspeed with all the family time!
Nick has taken to asking if I need to "proof" something every time I mention cooking lol
This made me laugh! I had to look up proving because I had no idea what it was! Clearly I am not a huge baker. I also love how every time they're required to make phyllo they're like, "No one makes this; you buy it in a package for a reason!"
bostonmichelle , your holiday plans sound lovely and so smart. I'm also impressed you've made enough friends down there to have an open house kind of event. We found it so hard to make new friends when we moved.
one of my knitting groups discussed the episode where the contestants made stroopwaffels, our group's favorite treat,as a technical challenge. They were all crap. The knitters said, 'That's why everyone just buys them!"
