I'm working, but we're planning our annual tradition of watching a movie this afternoon in the conference room. I think we're going to watch Elf. I've been challenged to answer the phone at some point today, "Buddy the elf! What's your favorite color?"
I have big plans tonight. I'm going to get a cheese ball and crackers, egg nog, and fireball and just veg in front of the tv. I've been looking forward to this all week.

I love the cheese ball! Somehow I feel like I'm not supposed to love it, but there is something so fantastic about it. I'm jealous of the afternoon movie watching and please have someone video you answer the phone that way!
My work is crazy today - I am the only one with deadlines and work to do and everyone keeps bugging me. I know I shouldn't be grumpy near Christmas, but I want to get out of here today with a work plan completed and I can't if you keep making me laugh when telling me weird stories and trying to kill time in your work day!
My mom came here on December 14th and other family and my sister rotating in and out of my house each a few days ever since. Everyone will be here through Tuesday, arriving on Saturday. I don't do well with everyone up my ass. I went with H to get the ham and had a crying meltdown in the car. I feel better, but I caving under the pressure constant house guests and holiday organization/shopping/meals. All of my family and H help, but need constant direction. I'm tired already.
To top it off, my great niece, that is 18 but still a senior, moved out from my oldest niece's house a couple of months ago without telling us where she is...she's not mature at all and we are pretty sure she is living with her BF, that none of us know. It's been a stressful time and she won't really talk to any of us. It's so odd. Her being gone is going to be very hard this holiday.
I forgot to get my white elephant gift for the department christmas party (this afternoon) wrapped. Didn't remember till I got to the parking lot here. So I texted H, who has the day off, and asked him to please wrap my present for him so I can swing home and grab it quickly. I told him I didn't care how it looked, whatever was easiest was fine by me.
He sent me a picture of the final product.
You guys, it's amazing. He made a full on big puffy bow and ribbon wrapper out of duct tape. On a plain cardboard box. For a bunch of engineers. IT'S PERFECT.
Like this, except plain brown cardboard and the "ribbon" is tape:
A have a little work AW that I think CEP will appreciate. I can't post too many details, but here goes. Last year after the election, a whole bunch of anti-Trump secret facebook groups popped up. On one of them, I connected with someone trying to find a lawyer to help someone else. Long story short, I was able to help. Or at least, I'm trying. This week, I filed the lawsuit, which I hope will ultimately help some disenfranchised people who got screwed over. It's not a suit against the administration, but it is on behalf of some people that don't fit into any traditional legal services niche who are real victims of a really awful thing. I haven't been this excited about my work in a long time.
So the resistance is working in all sorts of quiet ways. Not just against Trump or the Republicans, but against the powerful. We're connecting people who wouldn't otherwise be connected, and making our side stronger. Take that hopeful thought with you into 2018!

I’m leaving work at 2:30, picking up my friend, and going to her house for a kid free over night! We’ll be having take out, drink, and try to finish our pandemic legacy game! I’m fucking stoked!!!!

downtoearth, man I loved that blog. I wonder what ever happened to the author. I know she was struggling with depression, so I hope everything is okay.
I'm going to try going to Costco when I leave the office in a few minutes.
Famous last words.
I went to the worst Target in existance after work yesterday. I made it out without shivving anyone. I hope you do as well.
Emeryville?
Have you been to the new one in Berkeley on University? It's super tiny and yet they crammed it full of stuff so it's a very claustrophobic experience. Also what they chose to stock it with is super weird and doesn't make sense. I can't find basic every day items, like dog poop bags and o.b. tampons, but I have my choice of 47 different kinds of pajama pants. They do however have blackberry cucumber La Croix, so I can't hate on them too hard.

YES.
There's a target on University? Where?! Do they have toys?

Yes, it opened about six weeks ago! It's in the old Andronico's space on University and Acton. It's one of those City Targets, so it's tiny. I think they have some toys, but I expect the selection to not make any sense at all.
Speaking of Target --- they are currently selling this wrapping paper that is beautiful and shiny metallic red with glittery white polka dots. Do not be fooled by the beauty of this wrapping paper, buy it, and take it home with you. IT IS THE WORST WRAPPING PAPER EVER MADE. Tape does not stick to it and glitter gets EVERYWHERE.

Looks like I've got a new lunch walk destination.
We got a Christmas card from H's gramma that is somehow managing to get gold glitter on ALL THE THINGS from it's place on the mantel. I'm half convinced it's getting up and wandering the halls at night because there should not be glitter in the bathroom on the other end of the house.
Huh. Overboard got remade. I loooooved that movie as a kid, but I watched it as an adult and it finally clicked that he kidnapped her and had sex with her under false pretenses. The remake is gender swapped.

We're having a bunch of people over to watch Arsenal play, eat pizza, have some drinks and play pool. I told my H that I'm kicking everyone out by 11pm because we're flying out tomorrow morning and I want some sleep as we'll have to drive a few hours from the airport to get to my dad's house (and driving exhausted would not be a good idea).

My building has 2 cafeterias, a coffee shop, a sandwich shop, and a convenience store. By 12:45, the sandwich shop was out of bread and both cafeterias were closed. Popcorn for lunch it is.

Godspeed. I went to Target, BJ’s and Trader Joe’s today - not my best plan, considering we’re getting a snow/freezing rain mix in the next 24 hours. The woman in front of me at BJ’s had at least a dozen coupons, and every third one didn’t work. By the time we got through everywhere else, I almost snapped at the old lady at Trader Joe’s who put every. single. item. in a separate Market Basket plastic bag and wouldn’t let the clerk help, all while there was a line of people behind her. I think we stood in line almost 10 minutes before we even moved. If that store had wine, I would have bought some and drank it on the way to the car.
Remember the “pick a toy that reminds you of your coworker” thread? One of the female engineers did that with stickers for her group. This is what she gave me.

I pulled into the parking lot and then turned right around. They had several parking aisles blocked off with cones and a cop directing traffic. The line for gas was ridiculous too.
I went to the Whole Foods by my house instead for a few vegetables and a roast chicken, which was not very good.
