Hi everyone! I have randomly posted before and am a lurker, but want to get more involved on this board in 2018. I am thinking one of my resolutions for 2018 is that I am going to get through and give away some of the books I own. I think I will challenge myself that I can't check out any library books until I get through 5 of my own books. Then I can check out 1 library book, and continue the cycle. I would say I own somewhere between 400-450 books and need to get through them. My problem is that I go to the library weekly and take out 4 or 5 new books, so I am not touching my own TBR pile. I rarely keep books after I read them and would bring the to friends or donate them.
Also I want to read 100 books a year.
Does anyone have any reading New Years Resolutions?
That's a great idea. Someone just gave us a whole bunch of books but I keep going to the library too. They always have the new books right near the desk - the lucky day ones that you can't renew and I can never resist grabbing one. I haven't decided what my goal/resolution will be. I know I need to read non fiction but do I say just one and be happy if I do more? I was thinking of 2-3 a month but then I see other's numbers and it feels low. I have to think about it all.
Well, just last year I learned how to download library books to my Kindle app - I am addicted! Just today I added three new books to my wish list. I do have a shelf of paper books that I need to read and my mom has been consistently buying on our Nook account - I need to make it a point to get to those books as well. I have a few nonfiction on the Nook as well and should read them instead of solely fiction.
I set my Good Reads 2018 goal at 40 books. Last year I set it at 35, but read 41.
I have also made a resolution to find new ways to deal with stress (mostly caused by work) and in 2017 I relied heavily on reading, but I have found (accepted?) that I need additional outlets.

My goal is 52 books. I would love to up it each year but I barely made it this past year.
Every year I say I'm going to work on finishing up series. I have 3 Outlander books and 1 Game of Thrones to finished what is currently published. Those are just so daunting.
I think I also need to give up on fantasy. I read Throne of Glass this year and they are the main reason I had a hard time meeting my goal. They didn't grab me so I didn't really feel like picking them up over other distractions.
I've read over 100 books for the last few years. My Goodreads book challenge for this year is set at 52 with these conditions: 10 books must be non-fiction, 5 books must be considered classic literature, and 5 books must be by women of color.
Last year my challenge was that all my books had to come from the library. Nothing purchased.
The year before that, I challenged to read every single work of fiction I owned and nothing new could be checked out/purchased until I'd finished all the books I already had.
