My goal for 2018 is to be better at organizing this house and decluttering. I started following A simplified life and she’s doing a month long challenge. Each task take about 15 mins.
Is anybody else doing something like this? Would anyone like to do a check in group for this on here?

I'm interested too but probably won't follow through. Just being real. A few weeks ago I cleaned out and reorganized the freezer and it felt so good.
Same! I actually organized my closet, office, and freezer during the break last week so I feel pretty good. I even created a spreadsheet so I know exactly what's in the freezer - although now I need to see if I keep it updated!
I'm in. I've been doing a lot of decluttering anyways but I know I still have too much damn stuff. Like the margarita and martini glasses I haven't used since I moved to our house 6.5 years ago. WHYYYY do I still have them?

In general I'm great at organizing when I take a notion to do it, and terrible about keeping it up. We could really use a spreadsheet for the fridge. I might have to check that out.
I'm in... I basically did Day 1 over the break. I think I filled at least three trash bags doing this- DD's room and our home office were the big offenders in this regard.
I just recently did a ruthless throw-out/donate-stuff sweep of my place, but I know I'll get cluttered again over the course of 2018. I think this check-in will be my incentive to keep at it yearlong.

Even if I did a 31 day challenge, it's a year long thing for me. I also don't agree with the second premise - that you don't need two of anything. I actually do have use for two of the same thing. I don't keep or store anything that doesn't get used. The only exception would be a few family items that I'm keeping until my mom passes and then those things are getting donated (ie, my grandmother's sewing stool thing). It'll be interesting to see what the other 29 days bring.

I totally want to do this but each of these tasks would already take well over an hour. Sigh.
You can always break it down more. Just do a bookcase or say you're going to do 1 drawer.
Sometimes I'll set a timer and just do what I can if it's a bigger project.
Oh, you're totally right. I get it. This is my own self-inflicted paralysis for stuff like this though. If I can't go through every kitchen drawer, purge crap, take everything out, dust off, wipe the drawer down, rearrange, etc. than I feel like nothing was/can be accomplished.
I generally don't bring a lot of crap in the house like receipts, etc. But DH on the other hand is like a magnet for scraps of paper and junk.
I would love to do this for a living!! It’s one thing I feel I’m really good at.
Same! I could spend so much time at The Container Store. It's my favorite store. Lol.
I have done it for a living. It's pretty fun, although it can get pretty gross too. (Bugs, animal waste, etc) Our team actually has two people who basically go to Container Store every day to shop and deliver products.
LanaLang, one of my friends has her MIL staying with her and her H while she goes through medical treatment. She's a total hoarder. When they picked her up for treatment, they discovered she didn't even have running water anymore and had been, uh, doing business in buckets and throwing it away. ::hurl:: However, I have offered to haz mat suit myself and help clean up. I know it will be nasty and she probably won't let me anyway but it would be so satisfying to get it cleaned out. Other option is to just burn it down. Lol.
