Whew. Kids first day back from break. DD woke up thrilled. DS had a meltdown about which underwear to wear. I picked Incredibke Hulk. He was feeling more SpiderMan. Sheesh. Luckily he rallied and seemed happy as can be by the time I left for work. DD stayed happy. Thank God.
I’m sitting in the parking lot because I don’t want to face the day. Time to pull up the big girl panties and DO THIS! Lol.

It was a good weekend but full of basketball. DDs team ended up winning the championship which surprised me. They played 3 games this weekend and both on Sunday were nail biters. After, we went for pizza to celebrate. It was fun and fortunately, since I didn’t plan on doing a lot this weekend, it didn’t push anything back. Except maybe laundry but I can do that in between working.
I also got out for a run yesterday which felt great except for the driving wind that I didn’t know about until I was halfway dressed. Thankfully this week is warming up before cooling down again so I am hoping to get a run in every day.
Most of the company is at the sales kick-off this week so it will be a relatively easy week so hopefully I can motivate myself to get things done. Kids are back to school today!
We made it through the weekend, babysitting and all! I'm honestly so happy to be back at work and have us all back on a normal schedule. The holidays and snow days back to back really hit us hard.
My current dilemma getting my schedule back on track. I'm allowed to flex my work schedule, so I aim for 7:30-4. I love getting out early and having time to run an errand or get the girls from school and not feel rushed about getting dinner on the table. It's a really perfect time to leave the office. But, mornings are getting really brutal. I've been staying up too late and it's killing me to then have to get up at 5. I end up not feeling well for a full day or two after. I need to get back in the habit of putting myself to bed by 9:30 at the latest so that I feel better. DH is awful about guilting me about my early bed time though - he doesn't understand that I can't fit in cleaning, watching TV with him, reading my book, and everything else all in the same night. I can only pull off one activity per day!

Vents: Yesterday, I started training our new guy for our office this year. He was 30 minutes late to work yesterday. Today, he called in saying he has a doctor's appointment today that he forgot about. So he's off to a great start in our office. I didn't really have high hopes for him anyway.
I have OT tonight that I'm not looking forward to. And we're doing an enforcement operation today that I think is going to be a bust. I wrote it up, so it looks like my operation, but it was at the request of my second line manager.
I'm not sure what to do about DS and DH butting heads at home. Yesterday while I was at work, DS was a brat, but it just ruined DH. He made the comment that it ruined his whole weekend with DS acting up for a couple of hours. DS doesn't act that way with me, or if he does, it's short lived.
Celebration: I have the next 2 days off from work.
I think Christmas has caught up to my weight. I am tempted to blame it on increasing weight lifting, but that's probably not right. 40+ sucks.
I just got word that someone puked in Dds class. She has probably doused herself in hand sanitizer by now and is hunkered down permanently in her Lysoled desk.

DS is back at preschool. Halle-freaking-lujah! There weren't 2 extra kids at MIL's when I dropped DD off. The only non-routine thing was that we had a delay, but it was only 30 minutes for us really.
My vent is not really that big of a deal, but I think I'm going to have to go back to showering at night. It's very shallow of me, but my hair looks so much better when I shower in the morning, even on day 2 when it's not freshly washed, so I'm a little miffed about that. But, I'm trying to look on the bright side that I'll be able to take care of my skin better this way and it won't be dry AF anymore.
It was a great weekend. It started off with me getting my very nice retention bonus on Friday. DH and I booked our trip to Iceland. We are going in March with no kids. I can't wait to explore this new area with DH. We really need this. With the money left over from my bonus, I was able to completely pay off my student loans! It feels so good to have those loans paid after 15 years! Now we just have to pay off DH's student loans and our cars...
erinshelley21, We kind of already split the chores at night, so if he takes on my part, it seems really unfair to him. I think I really just need to get myself back on track after so much time off and crazy schedules during the holidays.

DS somehow got out of the house Friday, Saturday AND Sunday with no underwear. And he had school on Friday.
He was so proud of himself, but we were on top of the underwear today. I don't know what character it was, but he was wearing it for sure....I think.
ETA: He was wearing a green shirt and green pants, though. I hate it when he does that. He, unfortunately, loves it.

We spent the weekend doing these things, with a birthday party mixed in for good measure.

I survived our ski trip. It was so much work but the kids had a blast. Even DD tried skiing. It really helped her confidence when practically everyone on the hill complimented her and made a big deal out of her (mostly because she is a very tiny 2.5 year old and looked almost as wide as she is tall with her ski gear on). DS greatly enjoyed spending the time with his best friend who he hasn't seen in 4 months and I had fun catching up with my friend and hear all the gossip about my old firm.
Vent: DS has been really rude and obnoxious. I'm hoping it's because he was over stimulated and over tired through the break.
Another vent: our nanny got into the college program she applied for and will be starting in September. I'm thrilled for her but now have to deal with the headache of finding someone.
We had a great Resolutions dinner date. But now I have an awful cold, sound like a man, am a little bit dizzy all the time and.... cannot deal with the slab leak under our house. DH pushed his flight back and is currently battling both out service line and homeowners insurance because one of them damn well better cover this.
I’m slammed at work and cannot seem to think. People keep IMing me about absolute bullshit and I am super grouchy so am about to log out of Skype before I tell someone off. Happy Monday!

2chatter, if your homeowners has a water back up endorsement on it you should be good! We have to add it in IN but may come standard in TX, not sure. Good luck!

@erinshelley TY! DH is checking on that....right now we have one company saying it’s not covered and one saying it is or they will “work it out”. DH is getting quotes from both and calling a third but all of them seem shady - they can’t specify what it is, how they find the leak, why they tunnel versus drill through the slab, etc. very frustrated. DH is staying here tonight. Thank god for airline status and free same day changes.
mommyatty and other frequent fliers - does anyone know if there’s a limit to the number of same day changes? DH is thinking he might push out to Wednesday.
Vent: I decided to take a couple of 10 minute breaks to walk the stairs for exercise. The only place in the building where the heat actually works, apparently, is the stairs.

This was my life last spring. Hang in there!
We wanted to just touch up the paint in a few of the rooms that we haven't painted recently. The paint we have is from 2010. We got it color matched and... it is no longer the same color paint. So it looks like instead of painting 1 wall in the kitchen and touch up throughout the house, we're also repainting 2 bedrooms and a hallway. Goodbye, an extra $1k...
But after this weekend, all the light switches in our house match! And our random box of new lightswitches that's been sitting there since 2013 has finally been put to good use...
I took today off because we will have had 3 weekend vacations in 4 weeks. DH was feeling overwhelmed so in our drive home from weekend away #2, so I downloaded a new app called Swipes and put in our to do list. I started with 19 items. Several I had to assign to a different day (appointment etc). I completed 9 - some were lengthy errands. And have 3 left including putting away Christmas tree and presents and laundry etc. and we booked our vacation.
Heat hasn't errored out since yesterday. Fingers crossed it is good until Thursday when they replace all the seals. It had a 3.75 ice block in a 4 inch pipe. It's 34 here today so that helps much more than -13.
I'm super sick, with what may be strep throat. The rapid came back negative but they are culturing it now. I'm on a shit ton of antibiotics and feel awful. DH is out of town for work and DD finally went back to preschool today. I'm hoping its strep, and not the MRSA infection I got a few years ago again.
I ended up cooking a ton yesterday and have the week as far as meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) all prepped and just ready to either dump into the crock pot or put into the lunch case. But I feel totally exhausted.
Been a busy Monday at work and I had 1 client already ask when W2s are going to be ready as they had employees asking. I said I would call when I had them done. Jeez it is the 8th and you can't even file until the 29th. I am looking forward to going and watching the last 45 minutes of gymnastic practice tonight mainly so I can talk to the other moms about kid stuff and not taxes.
akafred, I'm sorry your visit with your dad was so hard. Bringing him home with you is probably the worst thing for him as you don't have the time to devote 120% of your attention to him which is what it sounds like he needs. I would talk with his doctors to see if a weekend visit would be okay if you are up to trying that. My great aunt is doing this with her husband. He stays at the memory care facility all week and then she brings him home on Saturday or picks him up to take him out to dinner as she just can't give him the care he needs the rest of the time. My great uncle is a big guy and my aunt is petite little thing.
School closed at noon due to ice warning. Within minutes of that text as I was trying to figure out how I would deal with my afternoon meetings, a friend from my kids school sent a text asking if I wanted her to pick up my kids when she picked up her kids. Amazing and fantastic surprise!
There are often questions here about the effort to make friends at your kid’s school and have play dates. I’m an introvert but this is an example of those efforts paying off. This mom and I actually have common interests besides kids and it is amazing that my kids know her well enough to go with her this afternoon.
I’m in Erie, PA for an overnight work trip. So much snow everywhere! Now it’s melting and turning to slush. I’m not super pumped about this trip. We’re visiting a customer mostly to humor them, not because there’s anything to actually do. I got a nice dinner out of it tonight at least.
DH is in charge of groceries, and I complained all weekend about how we were out of food. He was planning to shop Sunday afternoon, but came down with a man old instead. This morning I used the last of the bread to make toast for the boys, and it finally hit DH that we were really out of food and that he has to fend for himself for the next 36 hours. Not my monkeys.

All of this is so true.
Unrelated question: Is your kid past the point of car seats? I often wonder about this b/c I'd love to do a friday or after school pick up play date some time, which I think would work b/c we live very close to our kid's school. However I don't understand how car seats work in this situation. Even if you have a room for multiple seats in your car....I don't really have extra seats. KWIM? Should I start thinking about keeping a guest booster seat in my trunk?
Obviously if you're out of a car seat, no problem. But my 6 year old is still in a FF carseat and my 3 year old is in a rear facing one,and legally they are both probably going to be required to at least do a booster until age 9 b/c they are very short...
