C seems to have hurt his knee yesterday at the trampoline park. He was a little winey and limped some when he hurt it, then was fine the rest of the night. When we woke up he was wining and limping again. He can walk ok, he limps a little and complains it hurts. There is no bruising.
Would you go to pediatrician first or just go straight to orthopedic? The ortho is closed today, so I can’t call them until the morning. The pediatrician said to come there first, but just gave me a bad vibe. I feel like going there is pointless. What would y’all do?
Was it the pedi who suggested you come in first? How did they give you a bad feeling about coming in?
Do you have a local children's hospital/urgent care that they could do an x-ray? Our pedi is pretty good at making the call between sending us straight there or having us come in first.

I just used to work for our hospital system in accounting. They are a money making machine and I don’t feel like they care about the patient. They will bring you in and run a bunch of unnecessary stuff to get the billing up. The pedi is part of the same system. I called and asked and she immediately said bring him in first. I feel like she didn’t even listen to my concerns or offer any options, just wanted him there. I have already stopped using the pedi for sick visits because they will bring them in, then run unnecessary tests and want rechecks in a few weeks. I guess I just don’t like my pedi and I’m looking for assurance that it is ok to go straight to the ortho.
I don’t know of any children’s orthos locally. I’m not sure what age the ortho starts seeing kids, but I will ask first thing in the morning when they open.
Oh, that makes sense - I understand your hesitation. I probably wouldn't take him into the pedi either. I think it makes sense to go to ortho as long as you don't need a referral for your insurance.
I would probably go to urgent care first because they will be able to do an xray which ped usually cant. If you can get in to the ortho thats great but aren't they tough to get into?

jg183 oh I didn’t even think of urgent care! If I thought it was a break or he was in more pain, that would be what I need to do. We actually have a huge orthopedic clinic and sports medicine place. As long as they will take his age, I will go there. If they don’t, it does make sense to go to urgent care. I don’t think our pedi has the ability to do X-rays in house.

Any update today?
He was actually acting fine on Tuesday and not limping so I didn’t take him at all! I keep asking him how it feels and watching him closely. If it seems to hurt again, we are going straight to the orthopedic
