A guy asked me out to coffee....I think he might officially be the smartest and most successful guy who's ever been interested in me. Just have to find a time to schedule that!

This is one of those times where I really wish there was a love button. Eeeeeee!
I got to see one of my favorite students at the studio last night. Background: I normally teach lyra 1, and most people move up to level 2 in 3-6 months, depending on strength, body awareness, dance background, etc. This student was in my lyra 1 class for almost 2 years...she had no dance background and is very overweight, so she needs to be even stronger for moves that require lifting your body weight (which is most of them), so it took her much longer than normal to build strength and master the level 1 moves. But she came into every class with a great attitude and was always excited and happy to be in class, which was really great, because most people would get dejected with progress taking so long. Anyway, I subbed in a lyra 2 class last night, and she was in class, and it was so good to see how far she has come and how much stronger she has gotten! She was inverting at the top of the hoop and doing all sorts of other more advanced moves. It made me so happy.

After the TIP admonishing not to elope, I started renewing the search to find a venue. Holy hell. I mean, I guess it's good that I'm easily crossing places off. I mean, I get for "normal" weddings these are "normal" prices but um, no. I will not be meeting a $7,500 minimum or paying a $2,500 rental fee, thankyouverymuch.
Work opened at noon today. I carpooled up up here with two people since my car is terrible in icy conditions. It has regen breaking and last icy day I fish tailed all the way home. I will NEVER again put myself in that position if I can help it.

Weddings are stupidly expensive, bullygirl979. And so many places are geared toward the big 100+-person bashes. We had ~75 people on our guest list, and 44 came...it was hard finding a place that wouldn't seem ridiculous for a group that small but also had a nice big dance floor (since many of our friends are avid dancers).

Have you looked at small restaurants? They usually have lower minimums and no facility fee. At least there is a few of those in the Raleigh area that make it most affordable.
We had another snow day off from work, roads are nasty here. I took Penny out for a run/walk since we’ve been so cooped up. It is just so pretty outside though. Wish the snow could stay, but we’ll be back in the 60s this weekend.

I've been saying that if I get married again, it's going to be just me and my man on a beach somewhere far away or at City Hall, or with Elvis at the most cliche chapel we can find in Las Vegas. First my motives were just financial - although my first wedding was beautiful and everything I wanted, it was no doubt insanely expensive - but now I actually feel like "eloping" with just my man would be really intimate, romantic and special.
bullygirl979 I saw PLENTY of online listings for locations that had $5 and 7K rentals. LOLOLOL. They are not all that absurd (I only paid for food and alcohol, because my place's pricing was set up like a restaurant).
But if city hall or a beach is what you picture when you think about what you want, why the hell not? Actually, our local courthouse can hold at least 40 people, so there are plenty of couples that get married in front of the JOP and then they and their families all go out to a restaurant to celebrate. There's no "must have" list for a wedding besides saying your vows in front of a legally ordained minister/government official. The rest is gravy!
I also toyed with the idea, early in planning, of a destination wedding. I would have been fine if no one showed up, and fine if friends and family wanted to fly down and hang out with us, and all-inclusive resorts are typically free or low cost (like a few hundred dollars) for a cocktail reception after a ceremony, and they take care of everything for you. But in the end, I didn't want people to feel like they were forced to take a big vacation if they wanted to see us get married, so we ended up planning a semi-local wedding that I loved.

doglove, the sad thing is, some of the places with insane minimums ARE smaller restaurants! I'm avoid the "hotel reception halls" and looking at smaller art galleries, restaurants, or funky venues (local zoo).
itsmyparty, I go back and forth. Part of me just wants it to be us, part of me wants to celebrate with family.
chalupa, I would totally do it if my mom could make it. With her health, it has to be fairly local or else she can't come.
bullygirl979 you have a backyard with a fire pit, right? Put up a tent in case of rain, hire a food truck to pull into your driveway for dinner, and have a bonfire (maybe not under the tent, though ).
My little brother has promised that we will be playing beer pong at his reception in June (they rented out a local brewery). I am insanely excited for a casual, relaxed reception. And I'm going to laugh my ass off if my mom is taught beer pong.

chalupa, we actually talked about that! The only issue is that our backyard is in a low spot so if it's wet it gets REALLY messy. I don't want to risk it. My brother is getting married in September and is doing a pig roast at a local park. I'm excited about that!

Take the $5k you'd spend renting a facility and invest in some french drains and landscaping! I really would have loved to be able to sit under the arch/on the bench we used in our wedding for years to come. I think there'd be a lot of lovely memories. SaveSave

You actually make a good point...
We really don't need landscaping. Our back gardens are lovely. I will mention the drain idea to P. The only thing I see him saying "no" about is the bathrooms. Having 50 people use 1 bathroom may not work and I previously looked in to porta-potty rentals and was gobsmacked over how much they were.
bullygirl979 the super fancy portable potties are definitely $$$$$. But I'd just get a cheap/regular one and again, call it a day. Your guests don't need music piped in through the speakers of a fancy trailer potty with flushing water to enjoy themselves at a reception.
