I applied for a job back in November. A HR person contacted me soon after and said they were looking at applications and they would be in touch. A month later I hadn't heard anything, so I inquired as to the status of the opening since it was still posted on their website. I was told they were scheduling interviews and I hadn't been selected at this time. Another month has passed and the position is still posted as open. I emailed the HR person to inquire as to the status and she hasn't responded. Every time before she responded quickly.
I am really interested in this job and I think I am qualified. I may currently make more than they want to pay, but does that preclude me from being a candidate? Are there any steps you would suggest I take? Can I email again? Or should I just drop it? If you think its okay to email again what should I say? Thanks for any insight you can offer!

I was unemployed for about 1 1/2 years and my experience was that most people don’t have their crap together when hiring. Even if they “need someone right away” it always seemed like there were internal issues that slowed things down. It could be as simple as they filled the role and forgot to take down the listing. If it were me, I would not email again since you already sent one and they have not responded.
I think it's fine to email again as long as it is not excessive (once every few weeks or a month is fine). It may not do any good, but it won't do harm either.
A couple times I have done this and they are super gung ho to hire now. Then they get a contractor to fill in while they hire and eventually they just make it a contract position or bring the contractor on full time.
I would not call or email again. Its tough to hear that but if the HR person already called you and told you that you weren't selected, I would move on.

This exactly. If your resume was passed over for selections by whoever is doing the interviews, they probably wouldn't pick it the second time around.

+1. If you weren’t selected, they have already mentally put you in the “no” pile. More emails are unlikely to change anything. At this point it sounds like they are willing to wait for a new/better crop of candidates to come along. I think your efforts are better put elsewhere.
